Starting this week telling you about an amazing place I visited last weekend, in one of my favorite Italian regions, Tuscany. One of those places that makes me think about the beauty of my Country and yes about the luck of living just a few hours from places like this.
One hour from Florence, perched on the top of one of those typical green hills of Tuscany, you can find Castelfalfi.
Castelfalfi is a Middle-aged village that was restored and transformed into a spectacular resort, in a traditional Tuscan style. Castelfalfi story sends us back to one thousand years: the village was founded the Middle Ages but then it suffered of a long period of neglec and depopulation. Only in 2007 Castelfalfi was brought back to its splendor through many different restorations, with the aim of preserving the original architecture.
The estate extends for 1,100 hectares and it is a proper small world of its own, where you can rest and relax in the middle of Tuscan nature. The cozy medieval village around the castle has been completely renovated and it is a real jewel: reorganized with different apartments, it also contains small shops and workshops and a gourmet restaurant (La Rocca).
castelfalfi: i casali
The countryside is dotted with farmhouses now brought back to life and became property houses. It was really fascinating for me to see how rural manor houses, deserted for such a long time, are now living their second life thanks to the wise restoration projects.
Both the exterior and the interior keep the original Tuscan farmhouse look: exposed stone walls, ground floor with vaulted brick ceiling (this floor originally was used as warehouse and stable, now becomes instead the living area), first floor with exposed beames (once this was actually the floor where people lived in, now it’s the bedroom floor).
The interior style respects the architecture with a cozy and modern mood. The furnishing is typically Tuscan with a contemporary touch, the colour palette plays with neutrals and whites, the materials are fabrics and wood. Love how the luxury style here has been achieved more with the details that with pomp and decoration. What do you think?

castelfalfi: countryside
Castelfalfi hills are really an amazing panorama , with unique colors that change from season to season and from hour to hour.
The estate divides into cultivated fields ( here they produces wine, especially red onese, but also hulled wheat) and golf club. Also in the golf club there are other homes, so-called golf villas: at present, 2 are completed , 2 under construction and 3 in the planning stage.

Finally, I’m showing you the hotel where I stayed. In fact in Castelfalfi there are not just apartments and property houses, but also an hotel already open (La Tabaccaia) and a new hotel now under construction (Il Castelfalfi).
Speaking about restorations in respect of the original architecture and history of a building, La Tabaccaia is for sure another sample. This hotel is located in an old building where they used to dry tobacco for Tuscan cigars, here it comes the name Tabaccaia. It keeps the unique architectural in the outside, with the typical façade, but also in the interior: here as well the style is plain and refined, with a palette of greens and wood and a cozy and warm mood.
Let the images speak!
