No secret: in my house I have a huge wall coloured in a bright red. Red is absolutely one of my least favorite colors, I think I don’t have even one dress in red. And as you would guess from this blog I’m more into other colours, also on total white and very bright spaces.
Sounds crazy, but I painted that big wall in red four years ago (really? it’s been more than four years that we are living here?..yes this was supposed to be a temporary house)) and I’m not tired yet by it. Nor I would change it with other colours.
So my question for you today is: colored walls at home, yes, no or maybe…?
I ‘d say: maybe. Because every home is different and each person living inside is different.
I would like to make a small list of rules to keep in mind if you want to paint a wall in a bold colour, but probably it would be too long and however not exhaustive. I prefer to take some inspiring photos for you to explain in which cases a bold colour on the wall works well.
One thing I can tell you for sure: do not trust the “how much I like this color, I’ll do it on the wall” as a way of choice, and even the “I’ve seen that beautiful colour in my friends’ home, why not doing this in our house? “, probably in your home it would be horrible.
Much better, asking for the advice of an expert, an architect / interior designer who can see the before and after of a room (our superpower!). Do you agree?

Non è un segreto: a casa mia ho una mega parete colorata in un rosso acceso, di quelli proprio che quando lo dici ai colleghi ti guardano con occhi sgranati e ti dicono “ma non ti stanca?” (sottotitolo: che schifo).
Non è nemmeno un segreto che il rosso è in assoluto uno dei colori che meno preferisco, credo di non avere nulla di rosso neppure da vestire.
Sarà, ma sono passati quattro anni (ma sul serio? fortuna che ci dovevamo stare temporaneamente in questa casa, eh, ma questo è un altro discorso!) e io della mia parete rossa non me ne sono ancora stancata. E non siamo neanc’ora impazziti, nonostante il feng shui lo abbini a rabbia ed aggressività (nessun istinto omicida nonostante il rosso, ve lo assicuro).
E quindi la domanda che vi faccio oggi è: pareti colorate in casa, si, no o…forse?
Io direi, forse. Perché ogni casa è diversa dall’altra ma soprattutto ogni persona che ci vive è diversa dall’altra.
Vorrei farvi anche qui di contro un piccolo elenco di regole da tenere presente nel caso vogliate dare una botta di colore in casa con una parete colorata, ma temo sarebbe troppo lungo e comunque non esaustivo perché appunto credo ci sia molto di personale e troppo di diverso da una situazione all’altra per fare una semplice “lista di regole”. Ho preferito quindi prendere qualche foto significativa per farvi notare casi in cui un colore acceso, se non addirittura molto scuro o nero, a parete funziona. Dato bello pieno e senza tanti fronzoli.
Una cosa la posso dire per certo: non fidatevi MAI del “quanto mi piace questo colore, me lo faccio sulla parete” come criterio di scelta, e nemmeno del “a casa di Franca c’è una parete così bella in X colore, la facciamo anche noi a casa nostra?” perché a casa vostra magari risulterà orribile.
Molto meglio affidarsi al parere di un esperto, ovvero di colui/colei che ha degli occhi molto speciali che gli fanno vedere il prima e dopo di una stanza. Dicasi architetto/interior designer (abbiamo anche noi i nostri superpoteri!). Che dite?

My home
I choose this unusual (for me!) colour because… we already had most of the furniture, everything in white except one piece of furniture in a red hue (we recovered/reused everything, yes). The floor was very cold (beautiful but not chosen by myself, I would have gone for a wooden one for sure), kitchen dark grey as well.
However the room is quite big and very very bright (two large windows facing to South), so I decided daring with this: despite hating red, yes.
Perchè ho scelto un colore del genere…niente, in pratica avevamo già un po’ tutto l’arredo (un po’ recuperato, un po’ messo insieme da casa precedente) e tutto bianco a parte un pezzo in rosso (sulla parete opposta). Il pavimento è iper freddo (bello ma diciamo che se l’avessi scelto io avrei optato per il legno, di sicuro), anche la cucina è in grigio scuro. Di contro, la stanza è comunque grandina e molto molto luminosa, perché ci sono due grandi finestre rivolte proprio a sud. E quindi ho fatto l’azzardo, ecco.

Ok, maybe now that you’re less afraid of colour at home I can introduce you two new interesting colour collections I’ve spotted this year during Milan Design Week by Oikos, one of the Italian brands leaders in the colouring field.
