I’m actually planning in these days my summer travel: we will leave for a drive tour in Spain, from Valencia and Madrid, down in Andalucia. I love visiting new places by car, as I did two summers ago in Portugal. Have you ever visited this Country?

Portugal is one of the most picturesque places in the world. Azulejos tiles are almost everywhere, in the typical blue palettes but also in several other amazing colours and patterns. Your Instagram feed will thank you!

2 | Porto charme

This small city in the Northern area of Portugal is really an unique one and so different from its neighbour, Lisbon. The mood is charming, romantic, decadent. You will be surprised but the blue azulejos building and churches, by the colourful Ribeira, by the high Don Louis bridge, by Lello&Irmao library…and by several cozy and beautiful bistrot and small restaurants!

Questa piccola città del Nord è molto diversa dalla sua vicina del Sud, Lisbona. L’atmosfera è romantica, decadente, super affascinante. Palazzi e chiese ricoperti da incredibili azulejos blu, la coloratissima Ribeira, il ponte sul Douro, la libreria Lello&Irmao…e tantissimi localini e ristoranti dal fascino quasi parigino: non ve la dimenticherete!

3 | Lisbon blue sky and mood

Lisbon is the European sunniest capital city, with an average of 2,799 hours of sunshine a year (the second one is Athens, which has 2,771 hours of sun a year). I had never see a blue sky like the one in Lisbon: but more than this, there are so many beautiful things to see and experience in the Portoguese capital. For example, the picturesque 28 yellow tram, the tiled facades, the pasteis de nata, the Barrio Alto, Vasco da Gama bridge, the panorama from the miradouros, the Alfama…I love this city!!

Lisbona è la capitale più soleggiata d’Europa, con una media di 2.799 ore di sole all’anno (la seconda è Atene, con 2771 ore). E io non ho mai visto un cielo così blu come quello di Lisbona, il che già sarebbe sufficiente per me per amarla. Ma oltre a questo, ci sono tantissime cose che la rendono una città unica e stupenda: il pittoresco tram giallo 28, il pasteis de nata, il Barrio Alto, il ponteVasco da Gama, il panorama dai miradouros, l’Alfama…io adoro questa città!!

4 | the Smaller villages

I recommend you to visit Portugal by car, so you can easily stop by less know small cities and villages. Portugal is not a big Country and it’s very easy to be travelled by car, and in my opinion road trips are the best ones because you can stop by and explore places in freedom. Don’t miss the villages of Obidos and Sintra (very touristic but really beautiful) but feel free to stop also along the road, especially in the backcountry or in the small coastal villages!

Il consiglio è quello di visitare il Portogallo in auto, in modo da potervi fermare anche nelle città minori e nei paesi. E’ una nazione piccola, girabile facilmente in auto, e secondo me i road trip sono proprio il modo migliore per visitare un Paese proprio perché ti puoi fermare in libertà ovunque. Da non perdere, le cittadine Obidos e Sintra (molto turistiche, ma proprio belle), ma anche tanti altri villaggi sia nell’entroterra che lungo la costa!

5 | beaches and cliffs

We went in Portugal in August and usually in this period all Italian beaches are really crowded. I hate crowded and noisy beaches and I was so happy here in Portugal because beaches are not crowded, at least not as crowded as in my place. And superhappy to discover many amazing beaches: on the Southern West area you will find amazing cliffs (and amazing small playas, like Playa da Rocha or Praia de Arrifana, for example), while on the Southern East you will find flat and sandy beaches (do not miss: Ila de Tavira). Several beautiful beaches can be found also in the Lisbon coastal area!

Noi siamo abituati in Agosto qui in Italia a spiagge affollatissime (che io non sopporto!), in Portogallo non è così. E le spiagge sono davvero belle: nella parte sud-ovest soprattutto di scogliere (con sotto spiagge davvero spettacolari comePlaya da Rocha o Praia de Arrifana), mentre a sud est pianeggianti e sabbiose (da non perdere: Ila de Tavira). Tante belle spiagge anche lungo le coste intorno a Lisbona!

6 | wind and surfers, and people

Portugal has one of the best surfing scenes in Europe. Ok I do not surf but the relaxed surfers’ mood is the best ever! But in wider terms Portoguese people are all so relaxed and welcoming!

Il Portogallo è noto anche per le sue onde e come meta preferita dai surfisti. Ok io non faccio surf ma adoro il mood rilassato dei surfisti, i piccoli villagi sul mare, i campeggi sulle scogliere…e comunque in generale i portoghesi sono davvero un popolo rilassato e cordiale!

7 | the climate

I loved Portugal weather. It was hot but dry, thanks to the winds from the Ocean (of course this in the coastal areas, while in the backcountry it is definetely less windy). In the Northern areas it’s less warm and windy as well, but definetely a very pleasant climate

Il clima in Portogallo è fantastico. Soleggiato e caldo, ma comunque secco e ventilato (ventoso, in alcune zone costiere, e decisamente no invece nell’entroterra). Al nord è meno caldo, ma comunque decisamente piacevole

8 | wine (and food)

Portugal has an ancient tradition in wine production, with rich and tasty wines starting from the world famous Porto.  If you’re a true wine enthusiast, you can explore the Douro Valley and the Alentejo region on a wine tour when you visit Portugal.

Il Portogallo, un po’ come l’Italia, ha una lunga tradizione nella produzione di vino e liquori, cominciando dal famosissimo Porto. Se siete appassionati di vini, non perdetevi la valle del Douro e la regione dell’Alentejo

9 | it’s affordable

Portugal is one of the cheapest countries of Western Europe: overall it has incredibly cheap public transport, reasonably priced accommodation (you can also find very beautiful accomodations which are not so expensive) and good food and wine, without spending a fortune

Il Portogallo è uno dei Paesi più economici dell’Europa Occidentale: i trasporti pubblici costano poco, gli alloggi hanno prezzi ragionevoli (potete trovarne di bellissimi senza spendere un patrimonio), e il cibo è ottimo!

10 | Architecture and Design !

Portugal has a great architectural tradition, and Portoguese have great taste for interior and design.
