Ochre color as the colour trend for 2016

I wanted to share this post about colour trends for 2016 since the days I spent in London for the London Design Festival – actually, one month ago, OMG.

Indeed, I received the report by Dulux about the colour forecasting for next year...somebody is already talking about Christmas on their blogs, so don’t be surprised if I talk about 2016 in October.

Do you have an idea or feeling about the colour for 2016? In general, about the home decor colour trends for next year?

Saying “colour of the year” is an high word, we saw this with Pantone Marsala: there was a time on the net at the beginning of this year when everything seemed to become Marsala-painted, fortunately this do not happened ūüėČ (for those of you nostalgic of this nice shade of reddish brown, you can find my marsala trend inspired post here). For sure, there are some colour trends that have an high influence over all furniture, textiles, home accessories new collections, that we find first in trade fairs and in magazines, then in the shops.

Dulux is the bigger paint company in the Uk and it engages every year a special commission of design and architecture expert, called the AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Center, to predict future trends in term of colour.

It will be a warm year, with a predominant colour shade…not yellow, not beige, not gold: it’s ‘”ochre gold” !

2016 colour trends | ochre gold color palette
For 2016 we see a muted and sophisticated palette which centres on soft mid tone shades. The overall feeling continues to be warm, but with even greater subtlety. Bright colours have moved away from primary to something more interesting. Think coral, not orange; ochre not yellow and midnight, not blue. This is a friendly palette but with a dark, mysterious side.

We have selected a gold influenced ochre which is both bright enough to attract attention and combines well with other tones…

Boh, ci rivedremo a dicembre!

We live in an age of visual¬†saturation, where our every moment is recorded and posted on social media.¬†As a consequence, there is a new found power in words, especially when used¬†in the right context…The corresponding colour palette¬†uses the blue of ink and grey of graphite in contrast to tones familiar with¬†smartphone and social media filters¬†

Freedom within a framework.

We are increasingly¬†seeing the appeal of going ‚Äėoff grid‚Äô in order to find oneself in the modern¬†world.¬†Hence the colours in this palette are vivid and playful, yet still held back¬†by the black and white of the grid.¬†
