A style trip to Rio de Janeiro

Summer-time here on ItalianBark. And for me, holidays and Brazil have become synonymous, as I’ve spent my latest summer holidays there, even this summer I’m not going to be there. Fortunately, Style Trip is making me travel virtually in these beautiful places, that today I would like to share with you, through some personal pictures and some interior images inspired by Brazilian mood… Travel somehow will be the topic for this whole summer on ItalianBark, I tell you this in advance 😉

Brazil is a huge country, and when you think about it you probably think about Rio de Janeiro, even if it’s not the Brazil capital. This city is really amazing: it developed in XV century from the Baía de Guanabara, right at the bottom of the Pao de Açucar ( do not miss to climb up here with the cableway!!), and the city is literally surrounded by tropical forests, in addition to having one of them right inside its urban center, indeed the Tijuca Forest is the largest urban forest in the world (and it’s the area where you will find the famous Cristo Redentor, another sight-seeing)

E per me da qualche anno a questa parte le vacanze sono diventate sinonimo di Brasile, quest’anno invece non riuscirò a tornarci per fortuna ci pensano gli Style Trip a farmi viaggiare virtualmente in questi bellissimi posti, e oggi dedico un piccolo spazio proprio a condividere con voi qualche immagine dai miei viaggi passati, e qualche idea di ispirazione che parte proprio da essi. Sarà un pò il filo conduttore di tutta l’estate qui nel blog, quello del viaggio, ma di questo ve ne parlerò la settimana prossima 😉

Il Brasile è un paese immenso e quando si pensa a questo stato di sicuro viene in mente la città di Rio de Janeiro, che pur non essendo la capitale ci rimanda all’idea di Brasile che tutti abbiamo. E non è un caso, perchè questa metropoli è davvero uno spettacolo della natura: si è sviluppata nella baía de Guanabara, proprio ai piedi del Pan di Zucchero (mi raccomando, non perdetevi la salita qui con la funivia!!), ed è letteralmente circondata da foreste tropicali, oltre ad averne proprio una entro la città, la foresta di Tijuca, ovvero la foresta urbana più grande al mondo (e zona della città in cui si erge il famoso Cristo Redentor, da non perdere).

A city full of contrasts as well. Plagued by favelas, which completely surround the city as well, like an integral part of the natural environment of the hills…favelas which clash if compared to the utter luxury of Rio beach areas, the famous Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. Surely, the sounds and the colours of this city will remain in your heart forever, once you’ve visited it, and maybe sometimes you will find yourself trying to propose them into your home and in the greyness of your “ordinary” cityscape, as I do. .

I’m thinking about the shades of orange and pink of its sunsets … about the emerald green of its forests …and about the intense cobalt blue of its sea and its sky. But also, to the bright colours of its exotic fruits, and flip-flops, and bikinis.

E’ una metropoli di immensi contrasti, Rio. Purtroppo flagellata dalla piaga delle favelas, che anch’esse circondano completamente la città, arroccandosi sulle colline circostanti…che stridono messe a confronto alla modernità e al lusso a tratti sfrenato delle sue aree balneari, le famose spiagge di Copacabana, Ipanema e Leblon. Certo è che i suoni e i colori di questa città vi rimarranno nel cuore per sempre, una volta che la visiterete, e magari come me ogni tanto cercherete di riproporli anche nel grigiume dei nostri paesaggi “ordinari”.

Mi riferisco alle gradazioni di arancione e rosa intense dei suoi tramonti… al verde smeraldo delle sue foreste…e al blu intenso del suo mare e del suo cielo. Ma anche alle tinte accese dei suoi frutti esotici, e delle infradito e dei bikini che si vendono ovunque, qui a Rio.
