Beni Ourain rug love
Lately I have been quite obsessed with these monochromatic tribal rugs called Beni Ourain.
I know, I’m not alone and this is nothing new. Indeed, these Moroccan rugs are almost everywhere, in Pinterest, in magazines, in the stylists homes. Ranging from Scandinavian style interiors to Boho and Jungalow ones.
But I decided to write about them today because I think that this is not just a fad.
First, because these beautiful monochromatic tribal rugs are perfect for several kind of styles. Their neutral colour palette works well with other neutrals but also with bolder hues. They are also a perfect way to warm up a room and to add a little texture with their geometric pattern.
Second, just looking back in the history of architecture, Beni Ourain rugr already appeared in Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto homes, so not everyday people!
[By the way, it comes to my mind the amazing Alvar Aalto House visited during our tour in Finland. If you have not been there already, enjoy a virtual tour with Design Outfit here]

Beni Ourain rugs | a little bit of history
Beni Ourain rug take the name by the tribes in Morocco’s Atlas mountains, actually 17 different tribes mostly of sheperds. In these mountains, special small sheeps do live and they produce the excellent high quality wool that makes the carpets so special. Original Beni Ourain are completely waven handmade by Moroccan women, made from 100% sheep wool and are 100% undyed.
Beni Ourain rugs | shop online at Sukhi
Recently I virtually met this online rug shop called Sukhi. And I’m really happy to feature it in the blog not just because the rugs that are sold online here are beautiful, but because it’s an example of conscious shopping.
In Nepali, Sukhi means happy:
Indeed, Sukhi involves talented artisans straight from developing countries without middlemen. Produced from Nepal, India, Turkey and Morocco, rugs are sold up to 60% discount to typical price, in the meantime artisans earn about 2-3 times their average regional pay.
Sukhi ensures that artisans are treated fairly, happy as the name says 🙂
Sukhi collections include: wool and felt rugs from India, Beni Ourain rugs from Morocco, felt ball rugs from Nepal and patchwork rugs from Turkey. You order the carpet and when the order is placed, global artisans begin creating a beautiful handmade rug and ship their work directly to the customer. You can also customize your rug, as it is produced specifically for you!
