Be inspired by the yellow color trend for 2020 and 2021 in Interiors and Design
Last month we shared love for a vivacious red – this month we are toning it down with a warm neutral Cream Yellow. In this difficult moment, we are dreaming about sunshine and summer evenings, and chose a spring dusty yellow inspired by golden daffodils. Think sandy beaches, creamy vanilla ice cream with a hint of honey. This may give you an idea of where we are heading for our colour of the month – and, hopefully, soon again in real life ^_^

Pills of Cream Yellow
Yellow – the colour of sunshine, happiness and hope – a colour which we have previously touched on. Right at the beginning, we kick started our colour journey with a shade of Milano mustard yellow, also the citrusy hue of lemon yellow and now we are going even more mellow with Cream Yellow.
Being the lightest hue of the spectrum – yellow is uplifting and illuminating. Yellow can create enthusiasm for life, inspire original thought and even awaken greater confidence and optimism.
This time we are looking at the creamy side of yellow. Cream gets its name from the dairy product naturally produced by cattle grazing on natural pasture with plants rich in yellow carotenoid pigments, some of which are incorporated into the fresh milk (specifically, the butterfat). This gives a yellow tone to otherwise-white milk. Dairy cream can be considered part way between the colour of natural cow’s milk and butter – to make the colour cream a tad of yellow is added to white.
Cream is the pastel colour of yellow and is a calm and relaxing neutral hue. Because of its associations with sunlight, yellow is often seen as a warm colour.
“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.” –Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
After the darker days of winter, the joy of Spring – which means more mood-boosting sunlight. We often hear about how much the sun’s warm rays can be harmful to our skin however, the right balance can have mood-lifting benefits. Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain’s release of a hormone called serotonin – associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused. Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones, and we get most of ours from sunlight exposure.
At first glance of the Spring 2020 fashion colour trends palette by Pantone I see Sunlight –a colour that has helped to inspire this month’s colour. “Soft sunlight invites happiness, pleasant cheer and a smiling presence” Pantone.
The 2020 colour palette by Benjamin Moore features 10 coordinated paint colours that offer a “timeless way to lighten up.” Among the colour palette – rich but not overly saturated Golden Straw. This versatile ‘golden yellow mirrors the beauty of a summertime field.’ A cross between honey and cream Golden Straw illuminates.

Natural light, not only is it a photographer’s best friend and a major perk for office employees; it actually provides measurable health benefits. Embrace natural light – draw back those curtains, use mirrors to help bounce light around a room.
Add sunlight colour to walls, a gentle wash of colour; warmth with an ambient glow a background to add colour and layer with texture.
Buttercream colours – so delicious you can eat them, at the lighter end of the yellow colour spectrum – good for those looking for a colour that won’t overpower. “Stay really pale on walls so the yellow gives the room more of an overall feeling than a statement” says designer Sara Gilbane.
Light-coloured pastels reflect plenty of rays. Cream Yellow – a pale muted mustard hue; that is more mellow than the beacon of light other yellows provide. A warm canvas to add paler neutrals, creams or browns. A versatile hue – paired with pink, I instantly imagine the gentle warmth of soft mellow sunshine and rosy-blushed cheeks.
A sunkissed palette that transports me to summer.
