Planet KOIBIRD: Introducing Curated Maximalism design trend

More Personality, Less Uniformity: The Curated Maximalism Trend Effect

What if interior spaces no longer had to follow the same minimalist formula? What if bold, expressive, and layered designs could still be intentional and refined? Enter Curated Maximalism—a design philosophy that embraces richness in texture, color, and form while maintaining a cohesive and thoughtfully composed aesthetic.

Situated in the heart of London, KOIBIRD is a luxury boutique known for its avant-garde approach. In collaboration with French design firm Uchronia, KOIBIRD has undergone a transformation that redefines maximalism—melding artistic expression, sustainability, and immersive design into one striking retail experience.

Curated Maximalism: where storytelling meets bold design

The redesign of KOIBIRD is an artful journey, encapsulating the boutique’s essence: a fusion of travel, art, and culture. This reimagined space is not just a store but an environment that sparks curiosity and wonder, reflecting KOIBIRD’s commitment to the extraordinary.

The boutique’s foundation is built on artisanal craftsmanship, with custom lava stone flooring and walls painted in a seamless gradient from deep purple to lush green ( the brands’ signature hues) enhancing visual impact while reinforcing sustainability through the use of natural, enduring materials.

At its center, a sculptural silver planet serves as a dynamic display for clothing, embodying KOIBIRD’s otherworldly aesthetic and proving that maximalist design can be both bold and modern. Adding to the immersive experience, an unexpected silver-tiled space at the back of the store dazzles visitors with a curated homeware collection, introducing an element of surprise and playful design.

When sustainability meets maximalism

Maximalism is often misperceived as excessive, but KOIBIRD and Uchronia prove that it can coexist with sustainability. By integrating recycled materials and championing artisanal craftsmanship, the redesign exemplifies how thoughtful maximalism can minimize environmental impact while maximizing creativity.

More than just a design approach, curated maximalism is a philosophy. It encourages a mindful approach to consumption—urging customers to invest in fewer, high-impact pieces that bring joy and self-expression. Like minimalism, it embraces intentionality, but instead of restraint, it celebrates bold, personal, and dynamic design choices.

____

Personality over Trends

As interior design moves away from homogenized aesthetics, personal expression is becoming the defining factor of future spaces. Rather than conforming to mass-produced styles, we are more and more prioritizing individuality, by crafting interiors that tell personal stories and reflect distinct identities.

Statement furniture serves as a way to express creativity, turning everyday objects into conversation pieces. Beyond furniture, curated decor elements also play a crucial role in reinforcing personality-driven spaces. Personalized color choices that move beyond traditional neutrals. Personalized art, whether in the form of commissioned works, framed photography, or DIY projects. Personalized accent walls with vibrant wallpapers, intricate murals, or unique paint finishes. Lastly, meaningful decor—such as vintage treasures, travel souvenirs, and handcrafted pieces—gives a space a nostalgic and authentic vibe, transforming them into deeply personal spaces.

Why Curated Maximalism is a rising Trend

For years, minimalism dominated interior design, emphasizing simplicity and restraint. Now, curated maximalism is emerging as a bold counterpoint – one that embraces richness, depth, and storytelling.

KOIBIRD’s approach exemplifies this shift, masterfully layering unexpected textures, colors, and materials to create a space that is both daring and harmonious. Rather than mere decoration, this style fosters immersive environments that celebrate craftsmanship and invite discovery. The resurgence of maximalism signals a desire for more expressive, character-driven interiors, where design becomes a medium for self-expression and cultural narrative.
