You: What would you do if you receive a last minute invitation for a weekend in Sweden?
Me: I book my flight at the speed of light and join the crew!
This is what happened to me two weeks ago: I have never been to Malmö and I could not wait to tell you more about the wonderful weekend I spent. As I always do when I visit a new destination, I’m doing here a recap of reasons why you should visit Malmö, maybe in one of the next weekends.

Io: prenoterei un biglietto aereo alla velocità della luce e partirei!
E’ quello che è successo a me due settimane fa: a Malmö non ci ero mai stata e non vedevo l’ora di raccontarvi del bellissimo weekend che ho trascorso. Come faccio sempre quando visito una nuova destinazione che mi è particolarmente piaciuta, ti elenco oggi una serie di motivi per cui dovresti anche tu visitare Malmö, magari in uno dei prossimi weekend.

1. It’s supereasy to travel to Malmö from any European (and not) city
Before leaving, I did not know that Malmö was so well connected. In fact, the historic center is only twenty minutes by train from the airport of Copenhagen (which btw is very nice). Needless to say, transports here are super efficient, so your trip will be absolutely relaxing and in a few minutes you will have travelled in two Scandinavian countries.
Maybe you didn’t know: the bridge connecting Sweden and Denmark (Øresund bridge) is the longest cable-stayed bridge in Europe used for both road and rail traffic. It was only inaugurated in 2000. Before this, here they only travelled by ferry!
To confirm this, I’m telling you that in our group there were design bloggers from all over Europe! Igor aka Happy Interior Blog traveled from Munich, Agata aka Passion Shake from Milan, Mette aka Monsters Circus from Denmark, Stefan aka Trend Stefan from the Swedish capital Stockholm. And then, there was our special guide Niki of My Scandinavian Home, Londoner living in Malmö for a while now. In my place, there had to be Holly of decor8 from Germany who had to cancel the trip.
1. Malmö è facilmente raggiungibile da tutte le città
Prima di partire, non sapevo che Malmö fosse così facilmente raggiungibile. Infatti il centro storico si trova a soli venti minuti di treno dall’aereoporto di Copenhagen (che tra l’altro è molto bello). Manco a dirlo, i trasporti sono super efficienti, quindi il vostro viaggio sarà in assoluto relax e in pochi minuti avrete passato due Paesi Scandinavi.
Curiosità: il ponte di collegamento tra Svezia e Danimarca (ponte di Øresund) è il più lungo ponte strallato d’Europa adibito al traffico stradale e ferroviario ed è stato inaugurato solo nel 2000. Prima qui ci si spostava solo in traghetto!
A conferma di questo, vi dico anche che il nostro gruppo era composto da design influencer provenienti da tutta Europa. Igor di Happy Interior Blog viaggiava da Monaco, Agata di Passion Shake da Milano, Mette di Monsters Circus dalla Danimarca, Stefan di Trend Stefan dalla capitale Stoccolma. E poi c’era la nostra guida speciale Niki di My Scandinavian Home, londinese di origine ma ormai cittadina di Malmö da molti anni. Al posto mio, doveva esserci Holly di decor8 ma ha dovuto annullare il viaggio (Holly, avanzi un favore!) e quindi sono partita io, viaggiando da Venezia.

2. Visit Malmö for its design shops
If you love Scandinavian design as much as I do (and probably it’s like that, if you follow this blog !), Malmö is the city for you. In fact there is an amazing number of cute design shops, all within a walking distance. You could spend the whole weekend just by shopping.
Here are some interesting design shops I recommend you to visit:
- AB Smaland , Södra Förstadsgatan 25-27, Malmö
One of the most interesting concept stores I have ever visited. It is at the same time shop, workshop, café, with an eclectic and authentic mood, where you can find truly unique vintage pieces
- Olsson & Gerthel , Engelbrektsgatan 9, Malmö
Big names of Scandinavian design mixed with new designers, all in a just perfect interior setting
- Grandpa , Södra Förstadsgatan 25, Malmö
Lifestyle store in a contemporary Scandinavian mood. Do not be fooled by the name, here everything is super trendy!
- Florista, Kärleksgatan 4, Malmö
A little corner of paradise for plants and flowers lovers. If you travel from far away, as I did, you can always buy some beautiful composition of dried flowers or a wreath, like the ones we did during a super fun workshop!

2. Malmö e i suoi negozi di design
Se come me ami il design Scandinavo (e probabilmente se segui questo blog è così!) , Malmö è la città per te. Infatti c’è una concentrazione incredibile di negozi di design tutti a una distanza tranquillamente percorribile a piedi. Potresti dedicare l’intero weekend proprio a fare shopping per la casa.
Ecco alcuni design shop interessanti da segnare nel tuo itinerario:

Uno dei concept store più interessanti che io abbia mai visitato. E’ allo stesso tempo negozio, workshop, cafè, con un gusto eclettico ed autentico, dove è possibile scovare pezzi vintage davvero unici

Grandi nomi di design Scandinavo mixati a designer emergenti, il tutto in un allestimento semplicemente perfetto

Un piccolo angolo di paradiso per gli amanti di piante e fiori. Se viaggi da lontano puoi acquistare qualche bellissima composizione di fiori secchi oppure una ghirlanda, come una di quelle che abbiamo fatto noi durante un workshop!

3. To enjoy a traditional fika
Translating the Swedish term fika simply as a coffee break is not correct. Fika is a social institution in Sweden, it is their favorite moment of the day, when to enjoy a hot drink (almost always coffee or cappuccino) together with a local dessert, slowing down in a warm place and gathering with people. It is very different from our Italian coffee break, that is usually just about a few minutes in front of a coffee machine in the office or standing for an espresso at a bar counter: fika means relaxing and enjoying time together and it is one of the pillars of the Swedish tradition .
Do not miss in Malmö these two cafés with a typically Swedish atmosphere:

3. Per una pausa caffè tipicamente Scandinava (ovvero, per la Fika)
Tradurre il termine fika semplicemente come pausa caffé è riduttivo. Per gli Svedesi, fika èil momento preferito della giornata, in cui sorseggiare una bevanda calda (quasi sempre caffé o cappuccino) assieme ad un dolce locale, per rilassarsi e trascorrere tempo insieme in un luogo caldo. E’ ben diversa dalla nostra immagine di pausa caffé, di qualche minuto davanti ad una macchinetta caffé in ufficio o in piedi per un espresso ad un bancone di un bar: fika significa rilassarsi e allo stesso tempo socializzare ed è uno dei pilastri della tradizione Svedese.

4. To sleep in a design hotel
It’s worth spending the night in a design hotel, just to feel like you’re in one of those settings of the Scandinavian design magazines we love so much!
We stayed at the design hotel Duxiana : this boutique hotel is located a few steps from the railway station, in the historic center, so in a perfect location. Rooms are perfectly styled, one different from the other, of contemporary and Scandinavian taste, plus with DUX beds that are truly comfortable ones.
Tip: ask for the room with the bathtub inside!

4. Per dormire in un design hotel
Vale la pena di pernottare in un hotel di design, anche solo per sentirti per una volta come se fossi in una delle riviste che a noi piacciono tanto!
Noi abbiamo dormito presso il design hotel Duxiana : questo boutique hotel si trova a in una location comodissima, a pochi passi dalla stazione e nel centro storico. Oltre ad avere camere personalizzate di gusto contemporaneo e Scandinavo, vanta un comfort unico grazie ai letti DUX.
Consiglio: chiedi la camera con la vasca da bagno in stanza!
5. To enjoy a tasty and healty meal
Scandinavian food is really good, and you know you should trust an Italian when he says food is good! This is because here everyone gives a lot of attention to the quality and freshness of the ingredients, as a consequence of a very honest approach both towards the environment and towards the customer.

5. Per un pranzo o una cena gustosa e salutista
La cucina Scandinava è davvero buona, e se te lo dice un’italiana ti dovresti fidare! Questo perché da queste parti tutti prestano moltissima attenzione alla qualità e alla freschezza degli ingredienti, conseguenza di una sensibilità e onestà sia verso l’ambiente che verso i clienti che spesso da noi in Italia manca.

6. Visit Malmö because it is a super green city
Malmö has lots of parks, green areas, spaces where to spend time outdoors. I have to tell you that the weather was also less cold than I expected so it was really nice to walk outside even if it was autumn. It is the 3rd Swedish city, but small enough to be visited on foot or by bike. Being ‘green‘ is part of everyday lifestyle here.
Tip: you can also book a small boat and go around the canal to enjoy the city from a different point of view, as we did thanks to Book a Boat !

6. Perché è una città verde
Malmö ha un sacco di parchi, aree verdi, spazi in cui trascorrere tempo all’aperto e devo dirti che il clima era anche meno freddo di quello che mi aspettavo. E’ una città di dimensioni contenute, ma grande quanto basta per essere visitata a piedi o in bici. Qui essere ‘green‘ è proprio parte dello stile di vita e tutti dovremo imparare dagli Svedesi in questo.
Curiosità : puoi anche nolleggiare una piccola barca e fare il giro del canale per vedere la città da un altro punto di vista, come abbiamo fatto noi grazie al servizio Book a Boat !

7. To learn more about Scandinavian design
Design is so deeply rooted in Swedish culture that, by being here, you will easily understand why Scandinavian design became so popular all over the world. Here people really grow up with the culture of good design and with a minimalist taste that is part of their tradition. To really get to know about Swedish design culture, it is not enough to read magazines or look at the websites and by travelling here you will understand what I mean.

7. Per conoscere meglio il design Scandinavo
Quella del design è una cultura talmente radicata in Svezia che non ti sorprenderai del motivo per cui il design Scandinavo è diventato così popolare in tutto il mondo. Non si tratta solo di moda, qui le persone crescono davvero con la cultura del buon design e con un gusto minimalista, dettato dalla tradizione e dal loro modo di vivere, diffuso nella maggior parte delle persone. Per conoscere veramente la cultura Svedese non basta leggere le riviste o guardare i siti, venendo qui capirai cosa intendo!

8. Just to wander around!
In Sweden everything is so beautiful and without any effort nor frills. Malmö is the perfect example of this mood and it is worthwhile to travel here just to wander around, walking in the alleys, snooping into the houses and in the shop windows.
I’m sure you’ll stop to take pictures in every corner of this cute city!

8. Semplicemente per gironzolare e guardarsi intorno!
In Svezia tutto è incredibilmente bello e senza sforzo né sfarzo. Malmö è l’esempio perfetto di questo mood e vale la pena di venire qui anche solo per fare una passeggiata sbirciando nelle case, nelle vetrine, tra i vicoli della città.
Sono sicura che ti fermerai a fotografare in ogni angolo!
