Let’s start slow this week, talking about relax and reading corner ideas for homes, right? I spent a really nice weekend (I did even go for a few hours to the beach: sounds amazing, it’s just the beginning of May!) and now I feel recharged for many projects oingoing.
Between the several interior design advices that are active part of my job, the most requested is the “living space” one.
These days for example I was asked by a friend living in England (yes actually in one of those typical terraced British houses long and narrow with exposed bricks, love), she is Italian and she required a bigger space for her living. We Italians have right in our dNA this thing of the open living area, a bright and spacious place where spending most of the time, I talked about this also in this popular post 10 ideas to steal from italian style interiors.
My friend’s home is particularly tricky in this sense because the kitchen is located just close to the entrance and this obviously creates a spatial closure.
I opted for three different layout proposals: an easier one with just a single partition wall demolished, two options that are more invasive by opening the kitchen and creating a single huge living space.
I do not know yet which one will be chosen and cannot wait to show you the result😉

Inizio slow per questa settimana, parliamo di angoli relax, che ne dite? Io ho passato un bel weekend (ho fatto addirittura qualche ora di spiaggia: incredibile, siamo solo a inizio maggio!) e ora sono bella carica per una settimana di lavoro. Tanti progetti in corso 🙂
Tra le varie consulenze di interni che mi capita spesso di dare l’ambiente più “richiesto” della casa è la zona living.
In questi giorni tra le varie cose una consulenza per un’amica che vive in una tipica casa inglese (sì proprio una di quelle abbinate strette e lunghe in mattoni facciavista che piacciono tanto a me), lei è italiana ed evidentemente quella di avere un’area living più aperta, luminosa e spaziosa è un’esigenza che noi italiani abbiamo proprio nel nostro dna. Di questa cosa tra l’altro ne parlavo anche in uno dei post che sono tra i più letti e popolari del blog, ovvero le 10 idee da rubare agli interni in stile italiano.
Tra l’altro in questa casa la situazione è particolarmente difficile, nel senso che all’ingresso c’è una cucina completamente chiusa -solitamente invece nelle case inglesi la cucina è in fondo- e quindi questo crea un’evidente chiusura dello spazio.
Ho pensato perciò di fare tre diverse proposte di layout: una meno “spinta” in cui si apre solo la zona living abbattendo una sola paretina, altre due decisamente più sostanziali aprendo la cucina e creando un unico grande ambiente.
Non so ancora quale verrà scelta e non vedo l’ora di mostrarvi il risultato 😉
Do you know what’s the most overlooked corner in the interior design (in my opinion, asking to other interior designers: is it the same for you?) ? The reading corner, also called relax area.
Of course, you first think about the couch, the television position, the table, and then there’s that empty space: however, it is more important than most people think. First because having at home one space like this at present is a real luxury (home interiors are so tiny!). Second, because it’s one of the most creative corners at home, where we can add style and personality .
I realized this while looking back at my drafts…so I’m looking for some reading corner ideas today with you, let’s to this together?

Ma lo sapete qual è l’angolino che un po’ tutti (progettisti compresi, ma ditemi se sbaglio) trascuriamo? L’angolo lettura, detto anche angolo relax.
Sì perchè si pensa al divano, alla televisione, al tavolo, e poi c’è lui: angolino un po’ sfortunato nella progettazione, quasi di risulta, ma nella realtà più importante di quanto si creda. Primo perché avere lo spazio in casa per permetterselo ormai è un vero e proprio lusso. Secondo perché permette di sbizzarrirsi nelle idee e quindi di aggiungere stile e personalità alla casa.
Me ne rendo conto anch’io riguardando quanto fatto di averlo trascurato…ne approfitto per ricreare l’angolo lettura ideale qui con voi: venite?

Ok. Maybe having a space like this one at home in the pic (via) it’s not so easy. It’s a dream I know. But you may have a corner at home that is not used and it’s in a quite position, right? Maybe near a window or a stove…
Ok, un angolo come questo in foto in pratica è un sogno. ma magari pensando bene ce l’avete anche voi in casa un angolo non utilizzato e non di passaggio, magari vicino a una finestra o chissà ad un caminetto (magari eh. Io non ce l’ho ve lo dico)

Even if you are lucky enough to have that cozy corner near one huge window as in picture, you must consider an additional light to be added. Ambient light you have in the room is not enough for reading and you will probably need to consider where your switches are
Per prima cosa io considererei le sorgenti luminose. Anche se siete così fortunati da avere uno spazio come quello nella foto di sopra, per la lettura serale l’illuminazione ambientale non basta. E quindi: dove sono gli interruttori di corrente? Qual è la posizione ottimale per la lettura rispetto alla luce?

Consider the style of the rest of the home. But also feel free to be creative: this is your own private space, just for you and your precious relax time!
Considerate lo stile del resto della casa. Ma sentitevi piuttosto liberi: questo è il vostro angolo personale, la piccola isola felice per i vostri preziosi momenti di relax!

4 | choosing a few key pieces
A cozy armchair, a coffee table, some shelves or a small piece of furniture for your books. You can mix&match from different brands, from old pieces you have at home, or going for a coordinate corner: here is what I did from Italian brand Gruppo Tomasella. F

Una comoda poltrona, un tavolino da caffè di appoggio, qualche mensola o un piccolo mobile per i libri. Optando per il mix&match di marchi diversi, ma anche di oggetti di recupero, oppure per un angolo coordinato ma di carattere: qui ne ho ricreato uno virtuale prendendo spunto dal marchio italiano Gruppo Tomasella .

Cushions, curtains, rug: now it’s the really fun part, dare with colour max and with different patterns. This need another post actually…as a start, I found out this post in My Paradissi helping to match different cushions at home: let’s try?
