Come progettare una casa che sia anche attenta all’ambiente, senza rinunciare all’attenzione per il comfort e il design? Ecco cinque consigli con altrettanti esempi a cui ispirarti per la tua casa. In questo modo avrai anche un’abitazione protetta da sostanze volatili nocive, naturalmente luminosa e in linea con i trend del momento.
#1 Choose natural materials
You can select ecological materials for many things in your home, not only for furniture, but also for flooring and cladding. The best choice in this case is reclaimed wood, which has the added benefit of being very durable. To be truly green it must come from a sustainably managed forest. In these forests the landscapes are managed to prevent damage to eco-systems. This is guaranteed by certifications like FCS or PEFC.
Another solution can be choosing ecological marble, obtained using a blend of the glass from old cathode-ray tubes that are usually found in old televisions. Materials such as bamboo are often used as well.
The most original choice would be to use natural fibers like coconut fiber, obtained by brushing the outer part of the nut. This fibre does not produce static (unlike synthetic carpet) and also does not retain dust.

Non solo per i mobili, ma anche per rivestimenti e per la pavimentazione puoi orientarti su materiali ecologici. La scelta migliore in questo caso è il legno, che è anche molto duraturo. Perché sia davvero green deve essere di provenienza europea (per evitare i costi di trasporto), meglio se km0. È anche fondamentale che sia ricavato da foreste gestite in maniera responsabile e quindi rimboscabili. Questo è garantito dalle certificazioni FSC o PEFC.
Un’altra soluzione è il marmo ecologico, ottenuto con un impasto formato dal vetro dello schermo di vecchi tubi catodici di ex-televisori. Vengono spesso utilizzati anche materiali come il bambù.
La tendenza più originale vede l’impiego di fibre naturali e in particolare il cocco, ottenuto dalla spazzolatura della parte esterna della noce. Quest’ultimo ricorda la moquette sintetica ma è antistatica e quindi non trattiene la polvere.
#2 Choose Eco-Friendly Appliances

This is equivalent to the water used by a dishwasher going round once.

#2 Scegli elettrodomestici ecologici
È importante anche ridurre gli sprechi e soprattutto il consumo di elettrodomestici e la riduzione dei rifiuti.
Per raggiungere questo obiettivo è necessario utilizzare sistemi di illuminazione LED e avere un riscaldamento a basso consumo. I consumi si possono azzerare quasi del tutto attraverso l’utilizzo di un impianto fotovoltaico con accumulo che permette di autoprodurre l’energia elettrica per le esigenze della casa e conservarla per i momenti in cui è necessaria. Un’idea in più può essere installare una doccia a basso consumo idrico e sfruttare il più possibile l’acqua piovana.
Uno degli ambienti dove si producono molti consumi energetici è la cucina, per questo è stata progettata ad esempio la Ekokook, una cucina totalmente green! È dotata di un contenitore sotto il lavandino dove viene raccolta l’acqua per poi riutilizzarla con un risparmio di circa 15 litri al giorno, l’equivalente utilizzato dalla lavastoviglie per un carico.

#4 Riutilizzo di mobili vintage
Optare per pezzi di arredamento realizzati con materiali riciclati o vintage, è un’altra possibilità. Un esempio sono le sedie RD4 Legs di Cohda ricavati al 100% da bottiglie di plastica riciclate. Un altro esempio molto interessante sono le Pet Lamp: inventate dal designer spagnolo Alvàro Catalàn de Ocòn , sono dei bellissimi paralumi realizzati da artigiani di diversi Paesi con bottiglie di plastica PET.
Gli amanti del” fai da te” possono divertirsi ad attualizzare i mobili vintage. Spesso basta semplicemente un restauro casalingo. Per questi lavori sono indicati in particolare vernici naturali ed ecologiche, che contribuiscono a ridurre notevolmente l’inquinamento domestico.
Molto originali anche le creazioni di Isabel Quiroga che ha iniziato raccogliendo gli avanzi di altri progetti e combinandoli insieme, creando una serie di lampade uniche e non riproducibili in maniera identica.
#5 The fabrics
For the fabrics used in your home there are eco-friendly options and lots of materials you can use. In order to judge whether or not a fabric is ecological, you must start from the raw material used.
The most ecological ones are hemp, coconut and cotton. These materials can be easily recycled and you can find versions that are 100% organic, cultivated without pesticides and use plant-based dye. In this case, it is important to pay special attention to the labels and to select products made within the European Union, if you live in Europe. Substances such as pentachlorophenol and tetrachlorophenols (PCP and TCP) are applied to protect tissues during transport and storage but are prohibited or subject to restrictions in the EU. In other countries, their use is permitted.
You can find many ideas for homemade materials like mats made by sewing together soft pom poms for a colorful and fun result. You can also re-use the bags used to carry coffee or sew small leftover squares of fabrics to create an eclectic throw or pillowcase.
Making the right choices in these different domains allows you to put your own personal touch in your home, keeping the environment in mind.

#5 I tessuti
Anche per questo aspetto della casa le alternative e i materiali con cui sperimentare sono molti. Per valutare se un tessuto sia o meno eco-bio si deve partire dalle fibre utilizzate.
Quelle più ecologiche sono canapa, cocco e cotone. Quest’ultimo può essere facilmente riciclato e biologico, coltivato senza pesticidi e con tinte ottenute da prodotti vegetali. È necessario in questo caso fare particolare attenzione alle etichette e privilegiare quei prodotti realizzati all’ interno dell’Unione Europea. Sostanze come pentacloro e tetraclorofenoli (pcp e tcp) applicati per proteggere i tessuti durante il trasporto e il deposito, sono vietati o soggetti a vincoli restrittivi nell’UE, ma consentiti negli altri Paesi.
Si possono trovare davvero molte idee fai-da te come i tappetini realizzati unendo i morbidi pompons per un risultato colorato e divertente. È possibile anche convertire in tappeto i sacchi di iuta utilizzati per il trasporto del caffè oppure cucire tra loro piccoli quadrati di scarto che si trovano presso i negozi di tessuti.
Le giuste scelte in questi diversi ambiti permettono di dare un proprio tocco originale alla casa, con un occhio di riguardo per l’ambiente.
