I’m a fan of technology and tech news. Probably I’d never runned and designed this blog entirely by myself if I wasn’t.

Technology, however, in my mind is still synonimous with computer and web, it’s difficut for me to think about a 360-dregrees technology which involves the home living. Blinds which go down by themselves, lights to be turned on and off without switches, alarms to be controlled from a distance…however, the future is already here. It is called home automation system.

I must say that the Italian word (of French origin) – “domotica” in this case is much more effective than the Engish “home automation”one.

Indeed, the Italian word derives from the Latin word for home, “domus” , and the suffix of terms such as informatique and automatique: “it is the technoloy science that improves the quality of life in an home. “

Che io sia appassionata di novità tecnologiche già lo sapete. Non avrei mai creato e portato avanti da sola questo blog senza una componente molto nerd nel mio carattere, d’altronde.

Devo dire che quando penso alla tecnologia, mi viene però sempre in mente il mondo dei pc e di internet, ho ancora un limite nel pensare a una tecnologia a tutto tondo che possa coinvolgere tutti gli ambiti più comuni del vivere. Primo tra tutti la casa. Tapparelle che si abbassano da sole, luci spente senza interruttori, allarmi controllati da lontano… invece, il futuro è già qui. E si chiama casa domotica.

Devo dire che il termine italiano (di derivazione francese) in questo caso è molto più efficace del corrispettivo inglese, “home automation”.

La parola domotica, coniata in francese, deriva infatti dalla fusione della parola latina “domus” (casa) e dal suffisso di termini come informatique e automatique:  ovvero, “è la scienza che si occupa delle tecnologie capaci di migliorare la qualità di vita all’interno dell’ambiente domestico”.

Home automation is explained very well by Somfy: a French company founded in 1969 in Haute-Savoie that now sells in 60 Countries and it’s the world leader in the automation of homes and commercial buildings.

An automated home contains several equipments and systems which are able to run independently and can be planned and activated on a distance.

Some easy examples? Raising the blinds, adjusting the light, turning on and off stereo and TV, switching the heating, open and close the gate; everything, on a distance.

The whole system is controlled on a control unit that communicates with all the devices on a wireless technology. A control unit which is then connected to the tablet and smartphone, so we can then just control the house through our mobiles!

Cos’è una casa domotica ce lo spiega molto bene Somfy: azienda francese nata nel lontano 1969 nell’Alta Savoia – precisamente a Cluses, luogo importantissimo per il settore dell’acciaio-è oggi presente in 60 paesi ed è leader mondiale nel campo dell’automazione di case ed edifici commerciali.

Definita “casa intelligente”, la casa domotica contiene apparecchiature e sistemi in grado di svolgere funzioni in autonomia e programmate da chi vi abita.

Esempi pratici? Eccoli: alzare le tapparelle, regolare la luce, accendere o spegnere stereo e tv, controllare il riscaldamento, aprire e chiudere il cancello, ma anche attivare l’irrigazione, per dire. Il tutto, a distanza e programmato.

Centro del sistema è una centralina che comunica con tutti i dispositivi ad essa collegati tramite tecnologia wireless, ovvero senza fili. Una centralina che a sua volta è collegata a tablet e smartphone, con i quali possiamo quindi tenere sotto controllo tutti questi aspetti della nostra casa.

Can’t count how many times I leave home in a hurry with the doubt of having closed the shutters, of the heating turned down, or the lights turned off. Many times I find myself returning home to check …Please tell me I’m not alone in this?

A me è successo proprio quest’estate mentre eravamo in Portogallo: è saltata la corrente in casa. Vi lascio solo immaginare l’odore che ci ha accolto quando siamo tornati, visto che si trattava delle giornate più calde dell’anno e io non avevo svuotato il congelatore prima di partire. E questo è il minimo che può succedere quando si sta a lungo fuori casa…ci siamo capiti.

Non so quante volte esco di casa con il dubbio di avere chiuso gli scuri, di aver abbassato il riscaldamento, spento le luci. Tante volte sono già in macchina e mi ritrovo a tornare in casa proprio per controllare… Ditemi che non sono l’unica?
