MAISON OBJET | Trend overview of the September 2024 edition

A recap of the home decor trends 2025 as seen at the Paris fair Maison et Objet.

The September edition of Maison & Objet, alongside Paris Design Week, took a bold new direction, showcasing a host of new brands and up-and-coming designers.

In response to the economic and political challenges faced in France and globally, the event introduced a new format. With almost 2,300 brands on display, 27% of which were first-time exhibitors, this edition became a top destination for discovering fresh design perspectives—ideal for those always hunting for the latest inspiration.

Here are some of the trend highlights from the event.

Cosmic Inspired | home decor trends 2025

All things cosmic-inspired are definitely seeing a moment – from metallic surfaces, to grey tones and dark blues hues, to zodiac inspired products ( we also wrote about zodiac colors some time ago ). A trend that we spotted for a while on TRENDBARK and that was put on stage at the “What’s New in Decor Now” exhibit curated by Elizabeth Leriche.

After years of drawing inspiration from nature, turning our gaze to the sky offers a fresh and diverse source of creativity. However, let’s not forget to remain mindful of our planet’s well-being.

Textures vs shiny | home decor trends 2025

While earlier this year emphasized bold patterns, this edition showcased a more subtle approach to decor, focusing on experimenting with materials and textures rather than over patterns and geometries. At the same time, shiny surfaces and glossy finishes are continuing to see comeback, after a long period dominated by matte finishes.

The future is zero waste

Circular design was a major highlight of this edition. Belgian Designer of the Year, Lionel Jadot, redefined a zero-waste hotel lobby with furniture, decor, and textiles made entirely from biomaterials and upcycled solutions. His innovative vision challenged traditional hospitality design and pushed sustainable interiors forward. The new Eco-Materials corner featured a wide range of circular materials. At the Rising Talents Awards, focused on Northern countries, many designs cleverly and beautifully reused waste.

The raising of collectible designs

There is definitely a rise of limited-edition furniture and objects, blending art and design, often sold through galleries or independent designers. This trend reflects a renewed love for craftsmanship and a shift toward investing in pieces that are both beautiful and meaningful. Rather than buying many new items, the focus is on acquiring one handmade, local, and unique piece.
