What does the kitchen of the future look like?
I believe that the best way to discover the latest kitchen design trends (and, broadly speaking, all trends) is to first investigate on what people have now and what they would like in the future.
If you follow this blog, especially in the Instagram Stories, you also know that I often ask questions and make small surveys. I like to engage with readers and the idea of being able to reach people so far away from here, maybe from the other side of the world, is perhaps the real reason why I love working on the web so much.
Last year I promoted this survey about kitchen design, with the aim of learning more about your habits and what you would like at home. I created the survey during the collaboration with the Italian kitchen brand Bertazzoni, which will continue next year too. I launched the survey pretty quietly, without knowing if and how readers would have responded. The result was rather unexpected, with a total of around 500 responses from 48 different Countries.

Come sarà la cucina del futuro?
Credo che il modo migliore per scoprire le ultime tendenze del design della cucina (e, in generale, tutte le tendenze) sia quello di indagare prima su ciò che le persone hanno ora e su cosa poi vorrebbero in futuro.
Se seguite questo blog, soprattutto nelle Instagram Stories, sapete che propongo spesso domande e sondaggi. Mi piace confrontarmi con voi che leggete questo blog e l’idea di poter raggiungere persone lontane da me, magari dall’altra parte del mondo, mi ha sempre affascinata molto ed è forse il vero motivo per cui amo così tanto lavorare nel web.
L’anno scorso ho promosso un sondaggio sul tema design della cucina, con l’obiettivo di saperne di più in merito alle vostre abitudini e a cosa vorreste in casa. Ho creato il sondaggio in occasione della collaborazione con il marchio di cucine italiano Bertazzoni, che continuerà anche il prossimo anno. Ho lanciato il sondaggio un po’ in sordina, non sapendo bene se avreste avuto il tempo e la pazienza di rispondere. Il risultato è stato invece davvero inaspettato, con un totale di circa 500 risposte da 48 Paesi diversi.

Kitchen design today, the survey
In order to do a fast and easy poll, the survey consisted of 7 quick questions. 6 questions were about what’s your kitchen like now and one about what you would like to change. 2 questions concerned the aesthetics (color and style), 2 the layout (separate kitchen/open space and exposed/closed storage), 2 the kitchen appliances (type of hob and the essential appliance).
Today’s kitchens are mainly in neutral or black and white, in a majority of 81%. Contemporary style goes for the most (51%), followed by classic style (12%) and vintage (12%). The majority (44%) of readers have a kitchen in a separate room. Hobs are with gas burners (58%), then there are those who would never give up the coffee machine (38%). The images we see in Pinterest of kitchens with open shelves are quite far from reality, as the vast majority wants to keep everything hidden in their kitchens (75%).

Il design della cucina oggi, il sondaggio
Per non impegnare i lettori in qualcosa di lungo e complicato, il sondaggio era composto di 7 veloci domande. 6 riguardavano la cucina che hanno in casa oggi e una quella che vorrebbero. 2 domande riguardavano l’estetica (colore e stile), 2 il layout (cucina separata/open space e a vista/chiusa), 2 gli elettrodomestici ( il tipo di piano cottura e l’elettrodomestico irrinunciabile).
Le cucine di oggi sono principalmente a tinte neutre o in bianco e nero, in una maggioranza dell’81%. Lo stile contemporaneo va per la maggiore (51%), seguito da stile classico (12%) e vintage (12%). La maggioranza (44%) dei lettori ha una cucina in stanza separata. Piano cottura con fuochi a gas (58%), c’è chi poi non rinuncerebbe mai alla macchina del caffé (38%). Le immagini che vediamo in Pinterest di cucine con scaffali e tutto a vista sono lontane dalla realtà, visto che la stragrande maggioranza in cucina vuole tenere tutto nascosto (75%).

The kitchen of the future, the replies
I think is really interesting also to read your answers to the open question: THAT thing you would change in your kitchen tomorrow, having the chance?
The answers were really very different, but with some common points. Some people would not change anything, while many would like a larger and open kitchen. Many would change the finishes: floor, tiles, top and especially color (for example, from white to matt black, someone more colorful, someone blue, someone wabi sabi walls). Among the kitchen appliances, most people would change the oven and buy a dishwasher. Many would change the lighting, for example by adding a light under cabinets. Together with a series of more creative answers, which I gathered in this cloud!

La cucina del futuro, le risposte
Particolarmente interessante è stato però leggere le vostre risposte alla domanda aperta: la cosa che cambiereste della vostra cucina anche domani, potendo?
Le risposte sono state davvero molto varie. Alcuni non cambierebbero nulla, molti vorrebbero invece una cucina più grande ed aperta. Tanti cambierebbero le finiture: pavimento, piastrelle, top e soprattutto colore (ad esempio, da bianco a nero opaco, qualcuno più colorata, qualcuno blu, qualcuno pareti wabi sabi). Tra gli elettrodomestici, la maggior parte cambierebbe il forno e comprerebbe una lavastoviglie. Tanti cambierebbero l’illuminazione, ad esempio aggiungendo una luce sotto pensile. Assieme ad una serie di risposte più creative, che ho raccolto in questa nuvola!
