For the first time, the Pantone of the year 2016 IS not a single hue, but the combination of two different Pantone colors.
Pantone 2016 was revealed yesterday and it’s a pairing of two pastel shades, the Rose Quartz (Pantone 13-520) and Serenity (Pantone 15-3919)
A color pair that is the answer, in term of colours, to a specific historical period we are living.
A color response to the stress of our days with a combination that create feelings of tranquility and balance.
At a very first instance this choice surprised me, partly because first I thought about pastels in interiors, that we’ve been used to see for many years at present and now seemed to pass as a trend in place of “moody” interiors.
But I believe that Pantone for this color of the year 2016 made a strong choice by taking into consideration many different fields, also in terms of color psychology…and yes, maybe we really need the feelings that this pair of colors conveys.

Per la prima volta il colore dell’anno non sarà una sola tonalità, ma la combinazione di due.
Il Pantone 2016 è stato infatti rivelato ieri ed è un’accoppiata tra due tonalità pastello, il Rose Quartz (Pantone 13-520) e il Serenity (Pantone 15-3919)
Una coppia di colori che è una risposta ad uno specifico periodo storico che stiamo vivendo. Una risposta cromatica allo stress dei nostri giorni con un accostamento che rappresenta la tranquillità e l’equilibrio.
Non so a voi, ma a me questa scelta in prima battuta ha spiazzato un po’: nell’ambito degli interni siamo abituati a vedere già da anni le tonalità pastello e a mio avviso il trend è quello di andare verso tonalità più scure, cosiddette “moody”.
Ma si tratta nel caso del Pantone 2016 di una scelta fatta considerando un ambito molto più ampio, che sconfina nei termini della psicologia del colore: e si, forse ne abbiamo davvero bisogno delle sensazioni che questa coppia di colori ci trasmette.

Color of the year 2016 is more than a simple combination of pastels, and it can evoke many different styles: the 80s , the cosmic trend, the world of Japanese manga, the candy minimal to name a few of them.
It is certain that all these situations suggest a desire of escaping from present and actual life. Here is perhaps the meaning of this year Pantone beyond the colour itself, that you can actually like or dislike.

Andando alla ricerca di immagini sul tema Pantone 2016: Rose Quarz + Serenity mi si è aperta una gamma di accostamenti ai quali da subito non avevo pensato.
La coppia di colori, da semplice abbinamento di pastelli, mi ha richiamato alla mente una serie di altri mood: dagli anni ottanta e al bubble gum, al trend cosmico, al mondo dei manga giapponesi, al candy minimal per citarne alcuni.
Certo é che c’é voglia di evasione dal presente, in tutte queste suggestioni che vi ho elencato. Ecco forse il significato dell’accoppiata scelta da Pantone al di là dei colori in sè, che possono piacere più o meno.
