Unvealing the next sofa trends 2023 as seen at Milan Salone del Mobile with Italian brand egoitaliano
After starting to talk about the color trends as seen at the Milan Design Week, today we go back at Salone del Mobile sharing a round up of the next trends in the sofa design.
Living room furniture has always been the core of Salone del Mobile, with thousands of proposals by Italian and foreign brands. It is easy to get lost among all the novelties, and difficult to have a clear vision of what will be next.
Here I selected some keywords to keep in mind as a recap of the latest sofa trends I’ve seen.
The post is in collaboration with egoitaliano, an Italian brand of living room furniture.
Enjoy!
SOFA TRENDS 2023
from Salone del Mobile
.
#01 COLORFUL SOFAS
As I was mentioning in the last post, this one has definitely been a super colorful edition of the Salone del Mobile. Despite off-whites and beiges are still very popular, there is a clear trend towards bold and strong colors. You may have already noticed these bold and juicy colors in the fashion industry – that, as you may know, are often similar to those in the interiors but with a fastest turnaround.
At egoitaliano their core is about colorful furniture, especially they took inspiration from the latest trends in the fashion industry: this is because fashion gives a much wider range of colors, therefore more inspiration for colourful products.
If you want to add a pop of color in your home, definitely choosing a colorful sofa can be one good option.

#02 CUSTOMIZATION&CRAFTSMANSHIP
In fact, egoitaliano has more than 550 colors and finishes available for their sofas. That can be 100% customized, because all the production happens in Italy ( Matera ) almost on a level of craftsmanship.
In fact, one of the things that my clients often tell me – is how difficult may be finding the right sofa. Because of the room layouts, of the different tastes, different family needs, even if there are lots of brands, it may be very hard to find what you are looking for.
Craftsmanship is definitely an added value for this reason: other than ensuring a better quality, it makes it easier to meet different needs.

#03 LAYERING / SOFA TRENDS 2023
What happens if you choose a colourful sofa, but you are afraid of getting tired of its color? You can work with layers.
One of the decorating trends I noticed in Milan in fact was layering: that means, working with different textiles as an easy and affordable way to renovate an interior.
This concept of layering was pretty clear at egoitaliano, as they presented a whole new range of accessories (in collaboration with studio Zerolab) to be used in many different and creative ways to decorate sofas. Neoprene sofa covers, padded quilts, silk scarves, ropes, elastic racks, disassembled bags, and four new colourful patterns.

#04 SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
I would have seen more sustainability at Salone del Mobile as, in my opinion, this is the real topic of the next years. It’s about being sustainable, but also at the same time visual appealing and affordable – unfortunately, this often doesn’t happen and that means there is still a lot to research and do in this sense.
But I also saw many nice samples of sustainable products that can be used also in real houses.
One is the Coconut armchair by egoitaliano: in fact, the external shell is made of recycled cellulose, that one contained in nappies’ waste, creating a rigid material that defines the profile of the armchair and footstool. This armchair is customizable in over 550 different coverings, including leather and fabric, but I also love the neutral version.

#05 PLAYFUL DESIGN
The last big trend I would like to mention from Milan is playful design. That means, furniture and decorating pieces that other than beautiful are also fun and inspire feeling of happiness.
We were predicting this trend long time ago ( exactly two years ago, in the middle of the pandemic peak ) and I was happy to see that it was true.
Sofas and armchairs become playful too, embracing new shapes and ways to be assembled.
As for example the new Pongo sofa, made of soft modules ( reminding of the low Seventies shapes ) that can be combined in different ways. Plus, they have a wide seat – for the best comfort. Or, also, the playful Shalla armchair – made of one single piece of bented steel, to adapt and swing according to your body without breaking.

#06 CURVED FURNITURE / SOFA TRENDS 2023
I don’t want to sound too repetitious but these are the years of curved furniture design, as I wrote in this post. So at this Salone I saw so many variations of this trend that maybe I am starting to think – maybe we will move back again towards straight lines soon?
No worries, as I always tell you, as long as you choose according to your own taste, nothing will never look out of style. So thumbs up to customization, color and personal design.
