Out of the Blue is an idiomatic expression in English that describes an event that occurs unexpectedly. A little bit like this post.
I actually did not plan this post today but when I opened the email with this pictures I thought I must share this project on the blog.
I did not before while talking about Milan Design Week 2016 because I missed Ladies and Gentlemen show (I know, that’s a pity) but it’s never too late for sharing inspiring projects, right?
Out of the Blue by Studiopepe is a collection composed of 8 objects fruit of a study on the relationship between form, light, and colour.

Out of the Blue è un’espressione inglese che descrive qualcosa che accade in modo totalmente inaspettato. Un po’ come per questo post.
E infatti non avevo proprio in pianificazione questo articolo ma le immagini che ho ricevuto via mail erano troppo belle per non farvele vedere.
Non ne ho nemmeno parlato già tra i miei post della Milan Design Week 2016 perché la mostra Ladies and Gentlemen me la sono persa. Un peccato, lo so, ma non è mai troppo tardi per parlare di cose belle vero?
Out of the Blue di Studiopepe è una collezione di otto oggetti scultorei frutto di uno studio approfondito sulla relazione tra luce, forma e colore.
Blue has no dimensions; it is beyond dimensions, whereas the other colours are not… All colours arouse specific associative ideas… while blue suggests at most the sea and sky, and they, after all, are in actual, visible nature what is most abstract. Yves Klein
The photographic process behind the cyanotype makes the relationship between sunlight and the surface visible, and that’s what Out of the Blue sculptures are about. Similar experiments with light and materials started in 1800 with camera obscura then with Man Ray photograms.
Cyan comes from the ancient Greek word kýanos which means dark blue : did you know this?

Il processo fotografico della cianotipia rende visibile la relazione mutevole tra luce e superficie, ed è proprio su questo studio che si basa tutta la collezione di sculture Out of the Blue. Uno studio che richiama gli esperimenti dell’Ottocento con la camera oscura, ma anche i fotogrammi di Man Ray.
Ciano: deriva dal greco kýanos che significa blu scuro : lo sapevate?
