I’m writing this report with the latest tile trends 2018 back from a week spent at Cersaie in Bologna, the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings.

I worked with Il Bagno Oggi e Domani magazine and my colleagues of WEBLOG sharing news and events from the fair and I also had the chance to visit several booths and to see many interesting news and products in the ceramic coverings and floorings.

Here my round up of tile trends to watch out for the next year. They includes new tiles and ceramics trends plus confirmation of past trends: for sure ceramic tiles are having a great moment at present because they answer to a growing demand for personalized design in people homes. As usual this trend round up is also filtered by my personal taste, so feel free to add in the comment if you found something else to be noted.

Scrivo questo report con le ultime tendenze nella ceramica di ritorno da una settimana trascorsa al Cersaie di Bologna, la fiera internazionale della ceramica e dell’arredo bagno, dove ho collaborato con la rivista Il Bagno Oggi e Domani e i colleghi di WEBLOG condividendo novità ed eventi. Ho anche avuto l’opportunità di visitare molti stand e di vedere di persona molte novità, concentrandomi soprattutto sul settore dei rivestimenti e pavimenti ceramici.

Condivido oggi il mio report di tendenze dal Cersaie con le novità per il prossimo anno. In parte si tratta di tendenze che si riconfermano, ma con nuove accezioni: di certo c’è che questo è un grande momento per il settore della ceramica, molto probabilmente perché questo materiale grazie alle ultime tecnologie davvero risponde all’esigenza di personalizzare al massimo gli interni. Come sempre questa rassegna è filtrata dal mio gusto personale, aggiungete nei commenti se avete altre cose da segnalare.

Latest Tile Trends 2018 from Cersaie 2017

#1 Creative Patchwork

It was fun to spot many new interesting proposals for patchwork tiles. Other than the usual patchwork of encaustic tiles (that are beautiful but maybe we saw them too much), the decor now is created with new effect such as metallic tiles, hand-drawn decor, raw and used effects

E’ stato divertente vedere tante proposte creative di piastrelle patchwork. Più che con le solite cementine (belle sì, ma forse viste un po’ troppo in giro), le nuove proposte ricreano effetti nuovi, come quelli grezzi e disegnati a mano

 #2 Unexpected Hexagon

This year the tiling brands really launched all kinds of hexagonal tiles. The most interesting solutions are de-structured tiles which create different geometries, as well as the hexagonal tiles with new prospectives

Quest’anno davvero le aziende si sono divertite a lanciare piastrelle esagonali di ogni tipo. Le soluzioni più interessanti propongono piastrelle destrutturate a formare geometrie diverse, oltre che le classiche proposte ad effetti tridimensionali

#3 Chevron Pattern

Wooden effect tiles already had their moment, but from wood it comes one of the key tiling trends for next year: the Chevron pattern. Tiles have new interesting sizes (lots of brick tiles as well), and many brands launched small sizes with 45 degrees cut that creates interesting patterns

Le piastrelle effetto legno hanno avuto il loro momento, ma proprio dal tema del parquet arriva una delle tendenze più forti di questo Cersaie: la posa Chevron o spina di pesce francese. Molte aziende hanno lanciato nuovi formati proprio a listelli con taglio a 45 gradi, che permettono di creare interessanti effetti decorativi a parete e pavimento. In generale, dopo anni di grandi formati, tornano quelli piccoli, come ad esempio il mattoncino a parete

#4 Mermaid Pattern

We already talked a lot about pattern as one of the key interior trends for next year. At this fair I found, other than interesting geometric patterns, a lot of mermaid ones or new patterns with a reference to past architecture

Del pattern, dei forti accenti decorativi, come una delle tendenze chiave ne abbiamo già parlato nei post passati a tema tendenze di interior. Oltre ai vari pattern geometrici anche riferimenti diversi, come quello a lisca di pesce, oppure i richiamo a pattern tradizionali del passato

#5 Terrazzo

Terrazzo was confirmed as one of the most popular tile finishes this year at Cersaie 2017. Redesigned in new decorative shapes, applied on the floor and on the walls, with small grains or very big patterns

Il terrazzo si conferma come finitura di tendenza in questo Cersaie 2017. Reinterpretato in forme molto originali, sovrapposto a pattern geometrici, a grana molto sottile oppure con pattern molto grossi

#6 Polished Marble

I’m not a fan of marble, especially if it’s not real and it’s very polished, that’s why I have few pics of it. But trust me if I say that this year at Cersaie it was really about marble effect everywhere: polished, light but also a lot of dark marble, with original effects and sizes. The ceramic which looks like a different material is another key trend we already saw last year, for example with the fabric effect tiles, that are very popular this year as well.

Io non amo particolarmente il marmo, soprattutto se non vero e se molto lucido. Per questo motivo ho pochissime foto sul tema, ma credetemi, quest’anno a Cersaie c’erano davvero pavimenti e rivestimenti ceramici effetto marmo ovunque: non solo chiaro ma soprattutto marmo scuro e nero, molto lucido e con effetti ricercati ed insoliti. In generale, tante piastrelle che imitano qualcos’altro, con effetti ricercati come ad esempio quello tessuto, una tendenza che avevamo già visto allo scorso Cersaie e si riconferma molto forte.

#7  Broken Geometries

Breaking up the traditional tile grid to explore new shapes and patterns: this is one of the key trends I spotted at Cersaie, in part we saw this also in point 2 with hexagon tiles. Subtle hues with a matt effect are still very popular, but I bet there will be a comeback for stronger colours and polished finishes ( like it or not, the 80s are back )

Rompere la tradizionale griglia geometrica per esplorare nuove forme e nuovi pattern: questa è una delle tendenze dal Cersaie 2017 che mi ha incuriosita di più, un po’ come già visto al punto 2 con le piastrelle esagonali. Ci sono ancora moltissimi colori polverosi e finiture opache, ma io scommetto che è questione ancora di poco tempo e che presto torneranno tinte accese e finiture lucide (volenti o nolenti, gli anni Ottanta sono tornati)
