Tile Trends 2019 to Watch Out from Cersaie 2018

As I do every year, this time again I’m writing a short report with the latest tile trends 2019 spotted at Cersaie fair.

Cersaie – the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings – which runs in Italy every September, is the best place where to find the latest news and collections in the ceramic coverings and floorings. As I already told in this article, this year again I collaborated with Il Bagno Oggi e Domani magazine. We explored news from Italian and foreign brands too, in order to have a comprehensive idea of what’s new in the industry.

Come ogni anno, ho messo insieme un report con le migliori novità e tendenze in tema ceramica per l’architettura dal Cersaie 2018.

Cersaie – la fiera internazionale della ceramica e arredo bagno – è infatti il luogo migliore per scoprire le ultime tendenze sul tema rivestimenti ceramici. Come raccontavo in questo articolo, anche per questa edizione abbiamo avuto il piacere di collaborare con la rivista Il Bagno Oggi e Domani e l’isola social ma in un format leggermente diverso. Infatti, abbiamo esplorato non solo aziende italiane, ma tantissimi espositori esteri, in modo da avere un quadro davvero ampio di cosa propone ora il mercato della ceramica.

Il report di tendenze per il 2019 comprende le novità di quest’anno senza soffermarci su alcune tendenze di cui parlavo già l’anno scorso qui e che si sono confermate con forza anche quest’anno:

**Latest Tile Trends 2019 from Cersaie 2018**

#1 New Graphics

The geometric trend we already observed last year goes on this year as well with always new shapes and variations. From graphic and linear decorations, to patterns created with dotted and pixelated decorations, up to 3D geometric decorations.

Continua la tendenza geometrica già osservata l’anno scorso, assumendo forme e declinazioni sempre nuove. Da decorazioni grafiche e lineari, a pattern creati con decorazioni puntinate e a pixel, fino a decorazioni geometriche a 3D.

#2 Triangles

Talking about the geometric decoration, another chapter for the triangular shapes which were everywhere this year at Cersaie, as an evolution of ultra-inflated hexagon shape.

Sempre in tema geometrico, un capitolo a parte per le forme triangolari: presenti in praticamente tutti gli stand , sono l’evoluzione del visto e rivisto esagono.

#3 Grouts

After having explored any kind of effects and possibilities on ceramic surfaces, the trend is now to explore one element that has been secondary so far: the grouts. Still not many proposals but very interesting ones, as a demonstration that the trend is just started. I bet next year we will see a lot on this.

Dopo aver esplorato ormai qualsiasi tipo di possibilità decorativa sulle superfici ceramiche, la tendenza è ora quella di esplorare le potenzialità di un elemento finora secondario: le fughe. Le proposte sul tema quest’anno non sono state molte, ma molto innovative e scommetto rivedremo molte proposte su questo tema l’anno prossimo.

#4 XS / XL

At Cersaie 2018 this year there were really many proposals in extra-large sizes but also on the other hand in extra small formats. While we already talked about the extra-large format tiles here, talking about the small formats I’m sharing some news I spotted about mosaics : new materials and effects (especially glossy and metallic ones), till the smallest tile in the world of only, 5 × 1,5 × 1 mm produced by Mutaforma.

A Cersaie 2018, quest’anno tantissime proposte da un lato in formati sempre più grandi, dall’altro in piccoli formati. Per quanto riguarda il formato extra-large, vi invio a leggere questo post.

Per quanto riguarda il piccolo formati, si riscopre il mosaico in tutte le sue potenzialità decorative ed esplorando materiali ed effetti inediti (soprattutto effetti lucidi e metallici), dalla tessera più piccola al mondo di soli ,5×1,5×1 mm prodotta da Mutaforma.

#5 Floral

Is floral the new tropical? We don’t know if the trend will become as strong as the jungle one, but for sure this year at Cersaie there were some new interesting proposals in floral patterns, absolutely in big sizes and strong colours.

Che si tratti del nuovo tropical? Non so se la tendenza si affermerà con la stessa forza di quanto è successo per i motivi tropicali negli ultimi anni, ma di certo quest’anno a Cersaie c’erano molte nuove proposte floreali. Fiori sì, ma di grande formato e con colori forti e audaci.

#6 Shiny

Glass, majolicas, metal surfaces, marbles: the world of ceramics is rediscovering the glossy finishes and the strongest colors, after years of predominance of dusty colors and opaque surfaces. Honestly, I am having some troubles in getting used to this!

Vetro, maioliche, superfici metalliche, marmi: il mondo della ceramica sta riscoprendo le finiture lucide e i colori più forti, dopo anni di predominanza di colori polverosi e superfici opache. Io devo ancora farci l’occhio, onestamente!
