Creating a vertical garden indoor with tiles?
Before showing you a very innovative material, let’s discuss a bit about how the pandemic is changing our lifestyles.
For sure, new needs and lifestyles are emerging from the days we are living now. We are in a moment of big uncertainty but there are already some new rising trends we can observe because of the pandemic. For example, the virus crisis is bringing new interesting innovations for the creation of healthier spaces, and in general a rising interest and sensitivity towards home hygiene and sanitization. Germ-resistant materials for flooring and surfaces, as well as self-cleaning technologies to be integrated inside furniture – for example inside wardrobes and kitchen cabinets – will become soon a must-have in interiors.
Another key rising trend in interiors we already observed before the crisis, but that for sure is going to be confirmed in the post-pandemic reality, is what we can define biophilic design. Biophilia will become a real necessity, more than just a trend: after a quarantine inside a flat, everybody will absolutely want to have a small garden, or at least a small terrace where spending some time outdoor. All things related to greeneries and gardening will see a huge comeback, like for example vertical gardens for indoor, together with organic shapes inspired by nature.
Italian brand Casalgrande Padana recently launched a new collection of self-cleaning tiles with a biophilic design which look perfect to decorate homes in the post-pandemic. They also help the environment by reducing air pollutants.

Creating a vertical garden indoor with self-cleaning green tiles
Limpha is a unique porcelain stoneware collection totally inspired by nature. Their design in fact replicates the natural textures of climbing plants, with a super realistic final effect obtained with digital printing. The result is a rich and highly decorative pattern, which at the same time looks perfect even in the most minimalist interior because of its direct inspiration to nature.
Limpha wall coverings look like real vertical gardens for the indoor, even more realistic thanks to the big format – 120 x 240 cm – which reduces the grout lines to the minimum, creating the impression of a unique surface. With Limpha tiles you can cover both interior and exterior spaces, thanks to their special technical properties which make them resistant to frost, light, abrasion.
But actually, Limpha tiles are more than just inspired by nature, since they also help nature thanks to a special green technology.

Self-cleaning green tiles which reduces air pollutants
In fact, Limpha tiles are characterized by the Bios Self-Cleaning® , which is an innovative self-cleaning technology for wall claddings that at the same time reduces air pollution. That’s to say, it helps the natural environment by reducing the pollution and at the same time makes the space healthier and cleaner.
How does this technology actually work?
The Bios Self-Cleaning® technology to clean and reduce air-pollution
Limpha stoneware tiles are treated with a photo-catalytic technology that activates in the presence of sunlight, causing a reaction that reduces air pollutants and decomposes dirt deposits, which are washed away by rainwater, thanks to the super hydrophilicity of the ceramic surface.
The tiles contain titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is a natural substance traditionally used as a white pigment and to make food additives, toothpaste, makeup and so on. Because of its titanium dioxide content, the surface gets special photo-catalytic and super-hydrophilic properties.
The original technology is called Hydrotect® and was originally invented by TOTO ( the world-known Japanese bathroom fixtures brand) , then applied to many different industries, including indeed now also the architectural surfaces.
It is always a good idea if we can create beautiful spaces and at the same time help the environment, right?
