Sevilla, Spain, was named by Lonely Planet the best city to travel to in 2018.
The result is part of Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel research which ranked the 10 cities that everyone will want to visit in 2018.
I visited Seville last summer during our two weeks tour of Spain. Our tour included Valencia, Madrid and several cities across Andalucia. Seville actually was my favourite city, together with the small pueblo blanco Vejer de la Frontera.
Let’s do today a throwback to virtually visit Seville. Spring is coming and if you are planning the next summer holidays this post may help you. If you are thinking about spending holidays, indeed, you can’t avoid a stop in superbeautiful Andalusian capital.

Siviglia è stata nominata dalla Lonely Planet la migliore città da visitare nel 2018.
Il risultato è frutto della ricerca Best in Travel lanciata da Lonely Planet con quelle 10 città che tutti vorranno visitare quest’anno. Al primo post, appunto, c’è Siviglia.
Sono stata a Siviglia l’estate scorsa, durante il nostro tour di due settimane in Spagna. Nel nostro viaggio abbiamo girato mezza Spagna in auto, con un tragitto che comprendeva Valencia, Madrid e varie città dell’Andalusia. Siviglia è stata proprio la mia città preferita, assieme al piccolo villaggio bianco di Vejer de la Frontera.
Oggi facciamo quindi un salto indietro a visitare virtualmente Siviglia. La primavera sta per arrivare e se state già pensando alle prossime vacanze, l’Andalusia potrebbe essere un’ottima opzione e visitare Siviglia un motivo in più!

Visit Sevilla to see Plaza de España by day and by night
Plaza de España is one of the most beautiful squares I’ve ever seen, no exaggeration. Although it has a very recent history, since it was built during the 1929 Expo, I think it is one of those squares to see once in a lifetime. With its colors and azulejos you won’t forget it! You must visit the Plaza at day and another time during evening.
Plaza de España è una delle piazze più belle che io abbia mai visto, non esagero. Anche se ha una storia molto recente, poiché è stata costruita durante l’Expo del 1929, secondo me è una di quelle piazze da vedere una volta nella vita. Con i suoi colori ed azulejos non ha niente da invidiare a tante altre piazze storiche!

Visit Sevilla to discover its Moorish architectures
Seville is a city on a human scale. Everything is within a walking distance and in the central area you will find amazing historical building one close to the other. Starting from the Cathedral, which is the largest Gothic cathedral and third largest church in the world; then the Giralda, formerly the mosque’s minaret. Finally, just round the corner you can visit the impressing Moorish Alcazar. If you’ve got bags with you, just leave them at Radical Storage so you know they’re perfectly safe and secure and you can explore the city as much as you want.
Siviglia è una città a misura d’uomo. Tutto è a una distanza tranquillamente percorribile a piedi e nella zona centrale troverete incredibili edifici storici uno vicino all’altro. A partire dalla Cattedrale, che è la più grande cattedrale gotica e la terza chiesa più grande del mondo; poi la Giralda, in passato il minareto della moschea. Infine, a pochi passi è possibile visitare l’impressionante Alcazar moresco.

Non puoi fare un viaggio in Andalusia e non fermarti in un tradizionale bagno arabo. Io proprio a Siviglia ho provato l’ Aire the Sevilla: una vera oasi nel centro storico, situata in un antico edificio moresco, dove si può provare il tradizionale hammam (bagno turco), ma anche immergersi in diverse piscine calde e fredde e godere, di naturalmente, una vasta gamma di massaggi rilassanti * _ *
Visit Sevilla to walk under the curtains and do a siesta in the afternoon
In Sevilla the sun can be so hot that in summertime the city dresses up with huge curtains from one building to the other. Actually like big umbrellas to protect the city (and you) from the ferocious heat. I must say that last year, during our two week drive tour in Spain, I visited Sevilla in the hottest days of summer and the climate was bearable for me, but I was coming from one of the hottest summers ever in Italy…So it really depends, however the solution is a long siesta in the hottest hours: from 2pm to 5pm the city is desert!
A Siviglia il sole può essere così cocente che in estate la città si veste letteralmente con enormi tende che vanno da un edificio all’altro. Proprio come dei grandi ombrelloni per proteggere la città (e te) dal caldo feroce. Devo dire che l’anno scorso, durante il nostro tour di due settimane in Spagna, abbiamo visitato Sevilla nei giorni più caldi dell’estate e il clima era sopportabile per me, ma venivo da una delle estati più calde di sempre in Italia … Quindi tutto è relativo, ma in ogni caso la soluzione è una lunga siesta durante ore più calde: dalle 14 alle 17 la città è completamente deserta!
Visit Sevilla to get lost in the Barrio de Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz is the old Jewish quarter of Seville. With its little squares and colourful houses, plus small tapas bars, it’s a really nice place for a walk in the day and in the evening. Its is also the most iconic barrio of the Andalusian capital and I’m sure you will love it.
Santa Cruz è il vecchio quartiere ebraico di Siviglia. Con le sue piccole piazzette e le case colorate, oltre ai tapas bar storici, è davvero un bel posto per passeggiare sia di giorno e che di sera. È anche il barrio iconico della capitale Andalusa e sono sicura che lo amerete.
Visit Sevilla to hear flamenco in the Barrio Triana and for a Boteillon on the banks of the Guadalquivir
The barrio Triana originally was the gipsy area of the city and the history tells us that flamenco was born here. The quarter is located just opposite the river Guadalquivir, on the other side of the river from the historic city centre. Its distinctive yellow and white-fronted houses have seen many flamenco artists as well as bullfighters: so if you want to breath the real Andalusian mood, make sure to spend andafternoon and evening here…Remember also to have a walk in the Guadalquivir banks: during summertime evenings they are crowded with locals enjoying the botellón, in spontaneous open-aired parties.
Il barrio di Triana originariamente era la zona zingara della città e la storia racconta che il flamenco è nato proprio qui. Il quartiere si trova proprio di fronte al fiume Guadalquivir, sull’altro lato del fiume rispetto al centro storico della città. Le sue caratteristiche case gialle e bianche hanno dato alloggio a molti artisti di flamenco e toreri: quindi se volete respirare il vero mood andaluso, questo è il quartiere giusto… Ricordati anche di fare una passeggiata nelle rive del Guadalquivir : durante le serate estive sono affollate di locali per quello che loro definiscono il botellón, in feste spontanee a cielo aperto.
Visit Sevilla to enjoy a tapas tour
In Spain you will find tapas bars everywhere, this is not a commonplace but is a fact. Sevilla is really packed with traditional tapas bars and the best neighbourhoods for these are for sure the Triana and the Santa Cruz barrios. There are cozy and typical tapas bar really everywhere, but as a start you can have a look at this list of best local tapas bars in Sevilla.
In Spagna troverete tapas bar ovunque, è una realtà non un luogo comune. Siviglia è davvero piena di tradizionali tapas bar e i miglior quartieri per trovarne di tipici sono sicuramente i barrios di Triana e Santa Cruz. Avrete davvero l’imbarazzo della scelta!
Visit Sevilla to walk on the Metropol Parasol
Metropol Parasol, also called Las Setas (the mushrooms) by Sevillan, is a distinctive contemporary architecture designed by Jürgen Mayer and ended in the 2011. It is the largest wooden monument in the world and is located in Plaza de la Encarnación, over Roman remains discovered during its construction. From here you can enjoy an amazing view over the city roofs.
Metropol Parasol, chiamato dai locali Las Setas (i funghi), è un’ architettura contemporanea davvero originale progettata da Jürgen Mayer e terminata nel 2011. È il più grande monumento in legno del mondo e si trova in Plaza de la Encarnación, sopra a dei resti romani che sono stati scoperti proprio durante la sua costruzione. Da qui si può godere di una splendida vista sui tetti della città.
Visit Sevilla to sleep in an original colonial house
If you love interiors and architecture, you will love the traditional buildings here in Sevilla. Their walls decorated in azulejos and their small hidden gardens will make your eyes sparkling (and your instagram too). So, if you are looking for a place where to stay in Sevilla, my recommendation is to look for a traditional manor house converted into hotel or b&B.
We slept at the Hotel Casa del Colon, a boutique hotel in Sevilla historical center .
Located in a historic manor house dating back to the 18th Century and reconstructed in 1886, it is right in the heart of the city just a few steps away from the main tourist sites like the Cathedral, the Alcázar Palace or the Santa Cruz old quarter. From the terrace you can enjoy an amazing view of the Cathedral and the Giralda tower and also enjoy a very special breakfast, while the rooms are really spacious and furnished with a beautiful mix of old and new.

Se ami gli interni e l’architettura, apprezzerai moltissimo gli edifici storici a Siviglia. Le pareti decorate con azulejos ed i piccoli giardini nascosti faranno felici i tuoi occhi (e anche il tuo instagram, non serve dirlo!). Sse stai cercando un posto dove alloggiare a Siviglia, il mio suggerimento è quello di cercare tra una delle tante case coloniali trasformata in hotel o in b&b.
Noi abbiamo alloggiato presso l’ Hotel Casa del Colon, un boutique hotel nel centro storico di Siviglia.
Situato in un edificio del 18 ° secolo ricostruito nel 1886, si trova proprio nel cuore della città, a pochi passi dalla Cattedrale, dal Palazzo Alcázar e dal quartiere di Santa Cruz. Dalla terrazza si può godere di una splendida vista della Cattedrale e della Giralda e di una colazione fantastica, mentre le camere sono molto spaziose e arredate con un bellissimo mix di vecchio e nuovo.
