Why and when you should hire an interior designer

Home. Your very own space that you can seek refuge, unwind, entertain and grow in. It is the one place where you get to call the shots. But what if it feels lifeless or stagnant and it just doesn’t feel right anymore as it once used to? This is a situation that many people find themselves in at some point or other. Thus, if you feel that it’s time to breathe new life into your home then, that’s the time you really should consider to hire an interior designer and give your asset that add on value it deserves.

Hiring an interior designer is probably one of the smartest moves any design conscious person will make.

Why hire an interior designer?

The reason is simple. It will save you money in the long run.

I know that this may sound like a cliche, but it’s an undeniable fact that an interior designer has the expertise to determine your personal style and put together a design scheme that will work best for you, based on your budget and lifestyle needs. Hence, an interior designer will steer you clear from pitfalls and mistakes, unnecessary squandering and stress causing decisions.

Unfortunately, though, there is a wide misconception about what interior designers really do. As such, allow me to make this one clarification.

Design aims at solving problems with a certain type of aesthetics/style in mind. It is not about styling something in an effort to make it appear better. In other words, interior designers strive to makes spaces functional, safe and pleasing at the same time, while resolving underlying issues that are usually the root of many problems.

Some other good reasons to hire an interior designer

All home improvement projects call for some sort of action. Some of them can easily be carried out without any professional help, like swapping old hardware with new in your kitchen cabinetry. However, there are times where seeking the help of an interior designer is to your best interest and those are projects that need a considerable amount of planning, organizing, decision making and undertaking with masons and tradespeople (i.e. a kitchen gut renovation).

Similarly, if you are thinking of updating and upgrading a commercial space, then an interior designer’s input may have a huge impact. If for example, you hire an interior designer for your office space then, the designer’s input can most definitely make a first great impression that will help build your desired brand’s image, while easing the workflow and workforce performance.

Think first about your design goals!

As a rule of thumb, an interior designer will guide and help you make the most of your space while enhancing your style. The need for the services of an interior designer though ultimately depends on your design goals. If you are looking for a way to increase the total add on the value of your asset, then hire an interior designer. If you are still not sure whether you truly need one, then a first consultation and discussion should help you decide. (Usually, that first consultation is free).

At the end of the day, I truly believe that appearances and first impressions matter a lot, whether I like it or not. I also think it’s quite natural for people to be drawn to spaces that have an eye-pleasing aesthetic and up-to-date feel to them. Thus, it is a shame to hinder one’s true potential in some shady interior space that reflects very little of one’s true self and worse risking that first great impression that will help build one’s future development. So my suggestion is to think and plan wisely and then act accordingly.
