DESIGN BAR | Bavarian contemporary style in a cocktail bar in Munich, Gamsei

Today for Thursdays Original Interiors we fly less than one an hour (we can even drive here) to Germany, to visit the stylish interior of a cocktail bar in Munich called Gamsei.

Designed by Buero Wagner, the original interior design style, with a clear tribute to the local Bavarian culture and craftsmanship, it’s the answer to an anti-globalization philosophy in the cocktail scenary. Matthew Bax , Gamsei founder, introduced hyper-localism with ingredients for cocktails that are foraged by Bax and his team or grown by local artesian farmers (ingredients like Lavender Drunk Bee, Mid-Life Crisis and Frühlingserwachen), offering something that is unique in its kind.

Indeed, just like Bax’s do with all cocktail ingredients, Buero Wagner procured all materials such as wood, ceramics (custom-made by Gefäß & Objekt) and steel locally, and furniture elements are custom-maden.

Just wood and ceramic: all furnishing elements are in solid oak with a natural oil finish; all bottles are in white ceramic, custom-made by Gefäß & Objekt, and they are suspended from a black steel mesh attached to the ceiling, creating an awesome visual effect. The interior spatiality is unique as well: workspace and bar are all-in-one, everything is displayed on beautiful built-in cupboards, and every element is fully integrated in the oak display, as for example the coffee machine and even the doors to the bathrooms and laboratory.

You can either like or dislike all this oak, and this strict geometric design – very German in its style!- but this is one of those great samples of a clever match between interior design and concept idea I like to share.
