The bathroom – no longer a place where you just have a quick shower or a scrub up. It has become, for many tired and weary people, a place of serenity where you can escape for an hour and get some sanity back into your life -somewhere you can go to when you’re trying to recharge your batteries or hoping to grab some personal space. To help you on your quest for inner peace and the perfect sanctuary here are 5 bathroom trends to watch out for in 2015 from EKCO.

1.

Earthy tones – Be at one with nature by incorporating more earthy tones into your bathroom. Slate tiles, natural wood and even some foliage will help you to reconnect with the caveperson in you. Just don’t go running around with an animal skin draped around you instead of a fluffy bath towel and it may be best not to re-home the budgie amidst the plant life.

2.

Freestanding baths – A bath before bed is good for you according to new medical research but then you knew that already. A soak in cool water will help to relieve stress whereas a warm bath before bed prepares us for sleep. What better place to have it than a sumptuous, deep freestanding bath right in the centre of your room – A Kaldewei German cast iron enamel bath is the perfect choice surrounded by church candles and some soothing tunes.

3.

Bigger showers – Sometimes bigger is better and this is certainly true of showers as people are opting for bigger enclosures to create a more personal space which can help to revitalise and energise you. Also, people are seeking more controllability from their showers. Dornbracht call it ‘Smart Water,’ Take a look at their Sensory Sky shower system which is like showering in the open air through a mix of colour and scents with a variety of water experiences that range from mist to a full curtain of water.

4.

50 Shades of Grey – Yes Grey’s in. Think of cool slate tiles and you’ll be right on the money. However, if you think that it may be too dull then add some splashes of bold colour as a contrast.

5.

A new living area – The bathroom is now being viewed as more of an extension to the rest of the home rather than purely a functional room. If you have the space why not add some accessories such as an upcycled chair or two, or a dressing table. You may never want to leave your new found sanctuary ever again, but best to stop short of a vending machine.
