A Venetian giveaway on the blog, with Dream of Venice

For this week start I thought of something special, a present for you in the blog.

Actually, I’m sharing this today as I’m back from a relaxed weekend at home, spent for some hours in the city which is the protagonist of the book giveaway, Venice. Spent by wandering in the less travelled areas of the city, far from tourist routes, at evening time…in the same athmospheres I found while browsing my copy of “Dream of Venice” book.

Pay attention, we are far from all those photographic clichés of gondolas and Rialto bridges I saw tons of times (and that I hate, as most of people living here I think) and if you are looking for one of those books just not go on reading…. here it’s about an inspiring book which captures the spirit of Venice, by deserted alleyways, by fog, by lights and darkness, by dacaying walls.

Photograph Charles Christopher tells us about Venice through his lens, and each picture is matched with quotes from different well-known people with a common love for the city. The book is edited by Joann Locktov, a Californian lady who felt in love for Venice and who comes back here once a year.

Per questo inizio settimana ho pensato a qualcosa di speciale, ovvero a farvi un piccolo regalo qui nel blog.

E ve lo propongo proprio oggi perché questo weekend l’ho trascorso in parte proprio nella città protagonista del giveaway di oggi, Venezia. A girare per le zone meno battute della città, lontane dai tragitti soliti dei turisti, nelle ultime ore del giorno e le prime della notte…proprio in quelle atmosfere magiche che il libro “Dream of Venice” rappresenta e che ho ritrovato sfogliando la mia copia.

Attenzione, qui siamo ben lontani dalla solita raccolta di luoghi comuni di Venezia, dalle solite foto di gondole e del Ponte di Rialto, che non mi azzarderei mai a proporre…ma si tratta di un libro che cattura lo spirito della città attraverso una serie di fotografie accostate a citazioni di personaggi diversi con comune denominatore il loro amore verso questa città.

Il fotografo è Charles Christopher e qui in Dream of Venice (libro edito da Joann Locktov, californiana ma veneziana di adozione) ci racconta Venezia in tutta la sua poesia, nella luce e in ombra, nella nebbia, e nelle sue calli più sconosciute.
