In Venice you can always find secret places to be visited…
Even if you are visiting Venice for hundreth times, as I did. I studied here for my University years and now I live just a half hour time far from the city.
That’s the magic about Venezia.
For example, last week I visited some interesting and original places in Venice I never visited before.
I’m sure you will be happy to know them, if you are looking for unusual things to do in Venice. In fact, this city hides secret places in every corner, far for the usual touristic routes.
I discovered four of the five secret places in Venice I’m listing in this post thanks to a private tour organized by a group of local fellow bloggers (DigitalMeet in Venice). In addition, the fifth location is a beautiful place I visited yesterday with my friends, during a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Il bello di Venezia è che puoi sempre trovare qualcosa che prima non conoscevi,
anche se ci sei già stato centinaia di volte. E’ proprio la magia di questa città unica.
In questi giorni ho avuto modo di visitare delle realtà di Venezia che non avevo mai avuto modo di conoscere prima. Originali e non conosciute dai più, per questo motivo oggi le condivido con voi in questo post fotografico. Si tratta di realtà lontane dai classici percorsi turistici, come piacciono a me.
Ho scoperto quattro di queste cinque location secrete durante il DigitalMeet di Venezia, organizzato da un gruppo di colleghi blogger della zona. Nella quinta location che vi mostro invece ci sono stata ieri, in una bella domenica di sole.

TORREFAZIONE CANNAREGIO | Cannaregio, 1337

Torrefazione Cannaregio is a coffee shop still with its own roasting machine, the only one in town. The coffeeshop helds a selections of different coffee blends for around the word. Since 1930, because it is the first coffee shop in Venice still open today. Its small interior is very fascinating and it evokes all the long story of this beautiful cosy corner.
I recommend you the Remer blend, a special coffee that you can taste only here! Hence you can’t miss it, if you are looking for unusual things to do in Venice.
Torrefazione Cannaregio è l’ultima bottega del caffè con licenza di torrefazione nel proprio punto vendita, con pregiate qualità di caffè provenienti da ogni parte del mondo che vengono lavorate e tostate ogni giorno in un’antica macchina del 1950 (che abbiamo visto in funzione, eh). L’interno è piccolo ed accogliente, e ricorda la storia di questo angolo speciale della città.
Vi suggerisco la miscela Remer, ovvero quella della casa, una ricetta segreta che potete gustare solo qui!

This amazing workshop hides behind an ordinary door in Sestiere Cannaregio. It’s really difficult to find it, consequently almost unknown by tourists. It’s really a secret place of Venice.
Just enter the door, pass through the garden and go up to the mezzanine. There, you will find yourself in a magical place where Roberto, the owner, creates its handmade marionettes. Thanks to the internet, it sells the creations from here to foreign clients. You can’t miss it if you are looking for unusual places to visit in Venice.
Questo incredibile atelier si nasconde dietro un portone qualsiasi in una calle secondaria del Sestiere di Cannaregio ed è davvero un luogo segreto di Venezia.
Entrate dal portone, oltrepassate il giardino interno e salite fino al mezzanino: qui vi troverete in uno spazio magico e senza tempo, in cui Roberto crea a mano le sue marionette personalizzate.E la cosa incredibile è che grazie ad internet le spedisce da qui in tutto il mondo!

A tradition preserved from father to son and an atelier in an hidden corner of Venice.
The store takes its name from the “papussa”, the traditional slippers which in north-east of Italy were the poorest daily shoes. Now, they became a trendy footwear item, therefore they are sold still today but it’s difficult to find real handmade ones. In this small atelier they are still created by hand.
Una tradizione tramandata di padre in figlio e un piccolo atelier nascosto in un angolo di Venezia.

Originally it was a sugar factory, than it was transformed into a wax candle laboratory. Finally, today it become an hotel.The interior is really interesting because it preserves the layers of all those historical changes.
La storia di questo nuovo hotel di design a Venezia è davvero sorpendente.
Originariamente, nel Cinquecento, questo edificio era una raffineria per lo zucchero, che nel corso dei secoli diventò un laboratorio in cui si lavorava la cera per le candele. Infine oggi è stato convertito in un hotel di design, con interni che testimoniano la sua storia.

MERCATINO DEI GRANAI | Fondamenta delle Zitelle, La Giudecca

This special market takes place just once a year (the 1st of November) inside a stunning location, the granary of La Serenissima. It’s an unusual places you must visit if you are looking for the best view of San Marco Square. Indeed, it is located in the Giudecca, exactly in the opposite side of San Marco square.
The market is quite an unusual flea market: therefore, here for sale you can find clothes, accessories, shoes, jewelery, of really high quality- and also with high price. But it’s worth the visit, especially relevant for its amazing location.
Questo speciale mercatino si svolge solo un giorno all’anno (il primo di Novembre) in una location fantastica, gli antichi Granai della Repubblica. E’ un posto insolito, in genere fuori dalle solite tratte turistiche perché si trova nell’isola della Giudecca. Da qui si può godere di una vista di Piazza San Marco davvero fantastica, perchè si trova esattamente al lato opposto.
Il Mercatino dei Granai è di sicuro molto diverso dalla mia idea di “mercatino”, qui si vendono articoli di lusso e decisamente costosi. Però vale la visita, soprattutto appunto per la sua location eccezionale.
