If there’s one thing abroad that is loved about Italian homes, it is for sure how we use materials and textures. I also spoke about this here, in the post 10 ideas to steal from italian style interiors
Texture is part of our DNA: we like to touch the materials and feeling the 3D effect, we also like the idea of filling a space and make it more cozy thanks to the materials. I think it is also about our historical background: looking back at the Italian traditional homes, we had the cement tiles already in the Nineteenth century, needless to say the terracotta floorings back in the Etruscan times. It is in our tradition, and it’s nice I think to keep it in mind tradition when designing new Italian homes, however without loosing a contemporary feeling.
And it is exactly what’s today’s virtual tour is about: an inspirational journey through the traditions of Italian houses, mixed with the latest news in the ceramic coatings.

Oggi vi propongo un home tour tutto italiano molto particolare. Un giro assolutamente virtuale tra tradizione e di novità.
Se c’è una cosa che all’estero ci invidiano delle nostre case, si tratta certamente dell’utilizzo dei materiali e delle texture. Ve ne avevo parlato anche qui, nel post 10 caratteristiche dello stile italiano secondo me, ricordate?
La texture è parte del nostro dna: ci piace toccare i materiali e sentirne l’effetto 3d, ci piace anche l’idea di riempire uno spazio e renderlo più accogliente proprio grazie alla ricchezza di un materiale. Si tratta anche di un retaggio storico: guardando indietro le case italiane avevano le cementine già a fine Ottocento, o pavimenti in cotto fin davvero dai tempi degli Etruschi. Si tratta di tradizione, ed è bello tenerla presente quando si progetta casa, senza però rinunciare alle novità più attuali.
Ed è esattamente quello che vi propongo con l’home tour virtuale di oggi, che è un po’ un viaggio attraverso le tradizioni e le case italiane, un po’ attraverso le novità dei rivestimenti ceramici.

The inspo for the kitchen design comes from tradition. From the Italian traditional kitchens in terracotta, a warm and cosy place, core of the Italian home. But now it comes with a new twist.

L’ispirazione per la cucina arriva dalla tradizione. Dalle cucine italiane in cotto di una volta, fulcro della casa per eccellenza, ambiente caldo e accogliente. Oggi però il cotto si riscopre con una marcia in più.
Epoca è il gres effetto cotto che ripropone i colori e i formati tipici delle tavelle in cotto, proprio quelle che rivestivano le cucine delle case di un tempo, ma anche le taverne di una volta…assieme però al formato più di tendenza del momento: la piastrella esagonale!

The inspiration for the living room: a contemporary and industrial mood, being rustic at the same time?
It’s possible with Boom, the concrete effect tile which brings together industrial concrete and the colors of terracotta and stone, thanks to a special mix of different powders in the same material. The result is really unique because you can have in the same rooms the contemporary and industrial feeling of the cement, without losing a warmer and rustic touch.
Here as well, a reference to the Italian traditional houses with a moder touch.

L’ispirazione per il soggiorno: dare un carattere contemporaneo e deciso, senza però rinunciare al mood rustico che contraddistingue le case italiane?
E’ possibile con Boom, il gres effetto cemento che mette insieme il cemento industriale con i colori del cotto e pietra, grazie ad uno speciale mix di polveri diverse contenute nello stesso materiale. Il risultato è unico perché permette di ricreare nello stesso ambiente le atmosfere più contemporanee ed industriali tipiche del cemento, senza perdere quel tocco più caldo e rustico tipico dei soggiorni italiani.
Anche qui, il rimando è alla casa tradizionale italiana ma con modernità.

The idea for the bedroom? Let’s add some texture, not only on the floor, but also on the headboard.
For example, you can coat the lower band of the wall with Realstone, that is the mix of three stones – Quartzite, Cardoso and Jerusalem – in one single tile. But as you can see in the pictures you can really have fun by matching many different materials, working in continuity or in contrast with the flooring!

L’idea per la camera? E’ quella di aggiungere texture, non solo a pavimento, ma anche sul testaletto.
Ad esempio rivestendo la fascia inferiore della parete con Realstone, che è il mix di ben tre pietre – Quarzite, Cardoso e Jerusalem – in un’unica piastrella. Ma come vedete nelle immagini ci si può davvero divertire con tanti materiali diversi, in continuità oppure in contrasto con il rivestimento del pavimento. per una decorazione senza fronzoli, ma ricca di matericità.

What about adding a cosy feeling with texture in the bathroom as well? The inspiration here comes from handcraft tradition, with two different material proposals.
First one is Terracruda, a tile that evokes the ancient building material made from sun-dried mixes of clay, straw and natural fibres. The result is a moved surface, with modern 3d effects but also with every precious detail of an handcrafted surface, that adds a cosy handmade feeling to the bathroom.

Che ne dite infine di aggiungere texture e cosyness anche in bagno? Qui l’ispirazione arriva dall’effetto fatto a mano dei materiali di una volta, con due diversi proposte.
Il primo è Terracruda, una ceramica che si ispira a materiali di costruzione antichi fatti di argilla e paglia essiccati al sole. Il risultato è una superficie mossa e unica, tipica dei rivestimenti fatti a mano, combinando però gli effetti più contemporanei come ad esempio la struttura 3d.
The second is Flex, the material that reproduces the resin effect with a reference to Mediterranean atmospheres, thanks to an imperfect and uneven surface.

Il secondo è invece Flex, il materiale che reinterpreta l‘effetto resina rifacendosi ad atmosfere dal sapore mediterraneo, grazie ad una superficie dall’aspetto imperfetto ed irregolare.
