INTERIOR TRENDS | The latest sofa trends at present

It’s not easy to choose the sofa, I know.

You can go for something very neutral and minimal, or for designer sofas with bold and captivating style. A piece of furniture which will become the focal point of your living room.

I did a research among the latest sofa trends and I picked four of them which I think are going to last plus some online shopping advice. Ok, or maybe they are just those ones that inspire me the most at present. What do you think?

Scegliere il divano? Cosa difficile, sono d’accordo.

Potete puntare su qualcosa di neutro e dalle linee semplici, o su qualcosa di più deciso e accattivante. Un divano di design che diventi proprio il focal point di tutta la stanza.

Qualche consiglio ve lo dò oggi, ho fatto una ricerca in merito agli ultimi trend sul tema divano e individuato quattro tra quelli che secondo sono destinati a durare. O forse semplicemente che mi ispirano di più in questo periodo. Voi cosa ne pensate?

Sofa Trend #1 | Highback

This is not a new sofa trend but actually is going to last for a while, I think.

High-back designer sofas came from the Scandinavian style (read here for my post: 10 lessons to learn from Scandinavian style) which is still the main influencing in terms of design and home decor. As seen at last Milan Design Week, sofas have transformed into real alcoves where to sit, relax and isolate from the world!

Non è un trend nuovo, anzi direi davvero assodato ma durerà ancora, come visto anche nell’ultima Design Week milanese.

Divani dalla chiara influenza Scandinava, con schienali sempre più alti, anzi quasi sproporzionati, a diventare delle vere e proprie alcove entro sui rilassarsi isolandosi per un po’ dal resto del mondo.

Sofa Trend #2 | Quilted

Also quilted fabrics are not new, but they are still very present as sofas seem to become softer and softer. Comfortable shapes inspired by Seventies design. Quilted with a very thick pattern or, opposite, quilted in very big and soft pattern. Sofas are layed on the floor with a very cozy and unformal style.

Anche il tessuto trapuntato non è una novità, ma si è affermato con sempre maggiore forza. I divani in questo caso si ispirano alle forme accoglienti e “rilassate” degli anni Settanta, appoggiati direttamente a terra, con motivo trapuntato dalla trama molto fitta o al contrario dalla trama grande e soffice.

Sofa Trend #3 | Wood

Wood is protagonist in furniture design in all its forms and yes, now also a key trend for the sofas.

The inspiration is bohemian, and here as well the reference is to the Seventies and its organic shape and natural materials. On the net there are lots of example of wooden designer sofas but also of diy versions with wooden bases and over large padded cushions. Heart them!

Il legno è stato riscoperto in tutte le sue forme e applicazioni e sì, ora anche per i divani.

L’ispirazione è bohemienne e anche qui il richiamo è agli anni Settanta e alla sua declinazione organica, fatta di materiali naturali. In rete si trovano anche un sacco di esempi, oltre a divani di design, di divani diy costituiti proprio da basi in legno con sopra grandi cuscini imbottiti. Non mi dispiacciono affatto!

Sofa Trend #4 | Daybed

Relaxed and very zen is the inspiration for the last sofa trend I’m talking you about: daybed sofa trend.

Comfy padded chaise-longues, or minimal Scandi flat daybeds, this is a piece of furniture that has been mistreated in the years and now lives a new moment of glory. They are used in niches, reading corners, but also with the double function of bed and couch in single households. Houses are becoming smaller and smaller and trends adapt to this!

L’ispirazione per l’ultimo trend che ho scelto è molto zen: vi parlo infatti dei cosidetti “daybed“.

Che siano comode chaise-longue imbottite, oppure panchine minimali con cuscini in stile Scandinavo, si tratta di quell’elemento di arredo che finora è stato un po’ bistrattato e che ora gode di un vero e proprio momento di gloria. Possono essere utilizzati in moltissimi modi, in nicchie, in angoli lettura e relax, al posto del classico divano, oppure nei monolocali proprio con doppia funzione di divano e letto. Le case si rimpiccioliscono, e la moda si adatta!
