DESIGN TRAVELS | Four of the world’s most iconic skylines

There is nothing that stirs the soul quite so much at gazing out across a truly breathtaking cityscape as the sun sets. Cities really come alive at night and the most iconic skylines in the world are best enjoyed from the Golden Hour until darkness falls.

Unsurprisingly the world’s most exciting cities often boast the most iconic skylines. But this isn’t always the case. Amazing cities like Madrid, Berlin, and Paris are fantastic places to visit, but they just can’t compete when it comes to their skylines.

If you fancy a truly eye-opening city break, book a cruise this year to one of these stunning cities to discover the world’s most iconic skylines.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is known as ‘the world’s most vertical city’ and boasts a genuinely astonishing number and variety of skyscrapers. As a result, the Hong Kong skyline is pretty darn impressive. Remarkable futuristic towers shoot up from the historic Victoria Harbor, and the looming mountains in the background complete this astonishing view. The skyline is best seen from the Kowloon waterfront or from the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong hotel.

Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia’s capital might not have the densest skyline around, but the combination of natural landscapes, modern skyscrapers, and historic buildings makes it a winner in our book. Boasting the truly iconic Petronas Towers (the tallest building in the world from 1998 to 2004) the Kuala Lumpur skyline is an impressive sight. You can drink in the astonishing panorama from the 86th floor of the Towers themselves or include them in your view, whichever suits you best.

New York

The Manhattan skyline is probably the most recognizable in the world, made famous by countless films and TV series. Despite its ubiquity, it is still a jaw-dropping sight and really conjures up the romance and excitement of the Big Apple. There are so many great ways to see this iconic cityscape – from the One World Observatory, the Brooklyn Bridge, or even by helicopter tour! But our favorite has to be taking the Staten Island ferry and watching the skyline drift lazily by as you sail down the Hudson. What about the West coast? In California, condos are on the rise. Specifically in the Los Angeles area. There are various locations that are up and coming, for example, Ocean Park condos are beginning to sell quickly, and are sought after

Rio de Janeiro

Fewer skyscrapers, more nature. Rio’s skyline is all about the lush jungle vegetation, the azure blue of the Atlantic, and the stunning mountains in the background. Towering over everything is the extraordinary statue of Christ the Redeemer, the perfect flourish to finish off this gorgeous panorama. Climb Corcovado or Sugarloaf mountains to see the city in all its glory.
