Today I give you a small spoiler. I am about to restyle the whole living area of our home, so actually to put upside down half of the house .

It happens to you as well…

…to find yourself in a time when you tired of the stuff you have around? Here, for me that time is now. Maybe because lot of things changed this year: you really change the perspective of your homespace if you pass from a full time job outside home to a freelance work from home. Now that I spend more time here I just feel in the need for a space that can reflect better what I like and my style.

I already have everything in mind and on paper, I just have to find the time for it and get things started. The Christmas break feels like the right time…at least for a start, then who knows when I’m going to end!

Basically I would like to put a new wooden flooring, to repaint the red wall and the exposed bricks, to replace carpet and sofa, and a bit ‘of other smaller details… but above all, free from useless stuff. We already started with our old aquarium, that was uninhabited four out of five years: we gave it to someone who is suppose to enjoy fishes company more than we do ;).

I put together first ideas in the board you find below, but you know than then when started new ideas come as well!

Oggi vi do un piccolo spoiler. Mi sto accingendo a mettere sotto sopra casa, o per lo meno tutta la zona del living, che comprende soggiorno e cucina.

Capita anche a voi…

…di arrivare a un momento in cui vi siete stancati di tutto quello che avete intorno? Ecco, per me è così ora. Nel mio caso, sono anche cambiate tante cose quest’anno: è incredibile come cambi la prospettiva di casa tua da quando lavori full time fuori, e in pratica ci torni solo qualche ora alla sera, a quando inizi a lavorare da casa. Ora ci passo molto più tempo e sento proprio la necessità di uno spazio che rifletta maggiormente come sono e ciò che mi piace, il mio stile insomma. 

Ho già in mente tutto, devo solo trovare il tempo per iniziare e la pausa natalizia mi pare proprio il momento adatto…almeno per partire. Poi chissà quanto ci metterò eh a mostrarvi il risultato finale!

In pratica vorrei posare un nuovo pavimento, dare nuove pitture,sostituire tappeto e divano, un po’ di altre piccole cose…ma soprattutto, via le cose inutili. Abbiamo già iniziato con il nostro vecchio acquario, che quattro anni su cinque è rimasto disabitato, e che abbiamo dato a qualcuno che presumibilmente è più appassionato di pesci di quanto lo siamo noi.

Ho riassunto un po’ di cose e le prime idee in questa board, ma si sa che poi le idee mi verranno proprio facendo!

What I hate most?

All those useless stuff. If you live in a small space as I do, you can’t keep many things in your home, you just need space.  But I find always really hard to throw away stuff, because every object for me has a meaning because often it is a gift.

Maybe all those useless gifts I receive each year at Christmas time.

If you do my job, it happens a really funny thing: 90% gifts are “things for your house”. You are an architect, so you love stuff for the house!, this is what your friends always think.

No, the point is: I’m an architect, I’m too picky, I choose stuff for my home by myself. So for this Christmas, just buy me a well-equipped toolbox, or some quality brushes, that’s everything I’ll need this wintertime.

La cosa che mi dà più fastidio?

Aver accumulato un sacco di cose inutili. Con una casa piccola non te lo puoi proprio permettere di riempirti di cose, tra l’altro. Il fatto è che se non intervengo in modo drastico faccio fatica ad eliminare, ogni oggetto per me vuol dire qualcosa, perché spesso si tratta proprio di regali. 

Magari proprio di quei regali inutili che ricevo ogni anno a Natale.

Se poi fai il mio lavoro, capita al 90% che la gente ti regali “cose per la casa”: fai l’architetto e quindi ti piacciono le cose per la casa!

No, non lo avete capito: faccio l’architetto, ho gusti difficili, e le cose per la casa me le scelgo io. Se proprio volete, regalatemi una cassetta degli attrezzi ben accessoriata, o che ne so un bel set di pennelli, che quest’inverno ne avrò bisogno.
