Today I’m sharing some images from my home, decorated for summer.

Actually, my home is always so bright that it is a little bit ‘always summer in here. This is what makes me more satisfied with the restyling of our living room, which as you can see here in the before and after.

In any case, although in this season I prefer spending as much time as I can outside than at home, I made some small changes to fit the decor for the warmest season. Simple and fast things that you can easily do as well, if you are decorating your home for summer too and looking for some inspiration.

In realtà casa mia è sempre talmente luminosa che è un po’ sempre estate qui dentro. E’ la cosa che più mi rende soddisfatta del restyling del nostro living, che come potete vedere nel prima e dopo pubblicato qui era decisamente meno spazioso e luminoso prima.

In ogni caso, anche se in questa stagione tendo a trascorrere più tempo fuori che dentro casa, ho fatto qualche piccola modifica per adattarla alla stagione più calda. Interventi semplici e veloci che potete tranquillamente fare anche voi.

• Removing blankets and rug

The first thing to do when decorating your home for summer is to ask yourself if the textiles are ok for the hot season. Definetely, blankets are no longer needed, also you could remove some cushions to ligthen everything a little bit. Above all, if you have a very heavy carpet like my Beni Ourain, which is made of long-haired sheepskin, consider changing it with a new short-haired carpet.

I choose a new short-haired carpet in pastel shades, Terrazzo by Lorena Canals. As the name says, it has a decorative terrazzo pattern, available in three different hues. Mine is in the Rose Quartz one.

However – if you do not have any alternative – just think about removing the rug!

• Via le coperte e il tappeto

La prima cosa da fare per preparare la casa alla stagione calda è sicuramente quella di cambiare i tessili. Le coperte non servono più, io ho ridotto anche il numero di cuscini per alleggerire un po’ il tutto. Soprattutto, ho sostituito il mio tappeto Beni Ourain con un altro tappeto: diciamo che un tappeto a pelo lungo di lana di pecora forse non è molto adatto alla bella stagione…mi faceva sudare solo a guardarlo. Pensateci se anche voi avete un tappeto “importante” come il mio.

Ho quindi messo un nuovo tappeto a pelo corto, in tonalità pastello. Ho scelto Terrazzo di Lorena Canals, che come dice il nome ha un pattern decorativo a terrazzo; il mio è nella tonalità Rosa Quarzo ma esiste anche in altre due varianti di colore, blu e in tonalità calde.

Comunque -se non avete alternative- toglietelo proprio, il tappeto!

• A new lamp

Talking about lighting, in the same way as for textiles, I looked for something to be as light as possible, even better if transparent. Something unconventional, with a cold light and that could be easily movable.

I discovered the Solid lamp by Vesta, designed by Karim Rashid.

It is a luminous cube. Very light, it is entirely made of acrylic crystal with laser-engraved led lighting on the surface. Each lamp is handmade, in order to have this unique shape of cube without edges. The bright LED lines create a very special decorative pattern, which in my photos is not completely clear as the lamp is totally transparent and therefore very difficult to photograph. But I assure you that the effect is amazing when it is enlight, and also switched off.

|| Karim Rashid is a designer of Egyptian origins and internationally fame. We had already met him here, while this is a very cool hotel in  Berlin designed by him where I stayed some years ago.

• Una nuova lampada

Allo stesso modo, mi piaceva l’idea di inserire una nuova lampada da tavolo che potesse essere il più possibile leggera, ancor meglio se trasparente. Qualcosa dal design diverso dall’ordinario, che facesse una luce fredda e che magari potesse essere facilmente spostabile.

Ho trovato la lampada Solid di Vesta, disegnata da Karim Rashid.

E’ essenzialmente un cubo luminoso. Una lampada leggerissima, è costruita interamente in cristallo acrilico con sulla superficie incisioni al laser illuminate al led. Ogni prodotto è stato lavorato a mano, in modo da assumere la forma di un cubo senza spigoli. Le linee luminose a led formano un pattern decorativo davvero particolare, che nelle mie foto non si percepisce del tutto essendo la lampada completamente trasparente e quindi difficilissima da rendere bene in foto. Ma vi assicuro che l’effetto è davvero originale.

|| Karim Rashid è un designer di origini egiziane e di fama internazionale. L’avevamo già incontrato qui, mentre questo è un hotel fighissimo a Berlino progettato proprio da lui.

• Adding plants and natural materials 

I prefer green plants to flowers, mainly because they die at the speed of light in my house.

I added two new plants, a Fatsia Japonica (also called Aralia), a plant of Japanese origin, and a Peperonia Polybotria, a succulent plant of tropical origin. I put them inside terracotta pots and straw baskets. I also replaced a large print that I had on the wall with some straw hats.

• Piante e materiali naturali

Io non sono un’amante dei fiori in casa (muoiono alla velocità della luce in casa mia, più che altro), preferisco piuttosto le piante verdi.

Ho aggiunto due nuove piante, una Fatsia Japonica (detta anche Aralia), una pianta di origine giapponese, e una Peperonia Polybotria, una pianta succulenta di origine tropicale. Come vasi, ho messo prevalentemente vasi in terracotta e cesti in paglia. Ho anche sostituito una grande stampa che avevo a parete con i cappelli in paglia…alcuni non li uso più e quindi perché lasciarli in armadio?

• Decorate with travel books!

The big news that is that in a very short time I leave for a travel to Japan.

I’ve been in Japan only once, ten years ago, and since then I dreamt about going back there. So you can imagine that now I’m counting the hours! And that now in my houseome there are just Lonely Planet guides and books about travels, other than decor and design magazines.

• Libri di viaggio

La novità è che tra pochissimo parto per il Giappone. 

Ci sono stata solo una volta, dieci anni fa, e mi è rimasto nel cuore, perciò potrete immaginare che ora sto contando le ore che mi separano dalla partenza. E che ora in casa mia ci sono solamente guide Lonely Planet e simili, altro che riviste di arredamento e design. Per quelle c’è sempre tempo!
