How we will live in the future?

As I already told you several times, my work divides between online and offline. In my online work I look for and share news and trends in the interiors and design, in the offline one I work as interior designer.

I note that for some pont of views real homes here are far from what you see online or in magazines, other times trends really reflect what happens in everyday reality.In my daily work as an interior designer, I am dealing mostly with three types of houses:

houses with small sizes
houses with weird layouts
homes to be furnished on a term

What I see in my work offline exactly reflects what the latest research on design trends for the future are about.

That’s to say, our way of life is changing and the house adapts to those changes. We live in smaller houses, as a consequence of the rising prices and of some lifestyles that are different from those of the past. We also often live in temporary houses, because we already know that one day we will move. Also, I’m noticing that traditional layouts are gradually disappearing, to leave space to open spaces and less traditional solutions.

“How will we live in the future” was also the main theme of the Design Press Conference organized by imm Cologne in which I took part last month in Madrid:

Come vivremo nel futuro?

Come ti ho già detto più volte, il mio lavoro si divide tra quello online e quello offline. Nel mio lavoro online cerco e condivido novità e tendenze di settore, in quello offline mi occupo di progettazione d’interni.

Mi piace osservare come a volte la realtà delle case sia ben lontana da quel che si vede online o nelle riviste, altre volte invece le tendenze rispecchino davvero quello che succede nella realtà di tutti i giorni. Sempre più spesso, nel mio lavoro di progettista, mi capita di imbattermi in queste tipologie di progetti:

case con ridotte dimensioni
case con layout impossibili
case temporanee

Quello che vedo nel mio lavoro offline rispecchia esattamente quello che emerge dalle ultime ricerche sui trend del design per il futuro.

Ovvero, il nostro modo di vivere sta cambiando, la casa si adegua a questi cambiamenti. Viviamo in case sempre più piccole, conseguenza di prezzi che aumentano e di stili di vita diversi da quelli di una volta; spesso viviamo in case dove già sappiamo che staremo solo per qualche anno, e non cerchiamo perciò soluzioni definitive; i layout tradizionali stanno man mano scomparendo, per lasciare sempre più spazio a piante aperte e open space.

“How will we live in the future” era anche il tema della Design Press Conference di imm Cologne a cui ho partecipato a Madrid la scorsa settimana:

Smart solutions to daily design dilemmas

For this reason, when I visit design trade fairs, I always look for and take note about smart furnishing solutions, which can easily solve some design dilemmas.

During the last Salone del Mobile among the many news I found (I wrote a book about it, you can find it here), the Italian design brand Zanette launched a series of smart modular furnishings. Modularity and flexibility, in the geometric figure of the hexagon, sum up well these news. Here 3 solutions I noted down:

Soluzioni smart per problematiche progettuali di oggi

Per questo trovo molto utile, quando visito le fiere di settore, prendere nota di quegli elementi d’arredo che possono avere un utilizzo ambivalente, che possano risolvere in modo semplice alcuni problemi progettuali.

Durante lo scorso Salone del Mobile tra le numerose novità ( ho scritto un book al riguardo, lo trovi qui ), il brand italiano Zanette ha lanciato una serie di arredi e complementi proprio ispirati a queste tematiche. Modularità e flessibilità, rappresentate dalla figura geometrica dell’esagono, sono alla base di queste novità d’arredo. Ecco 3 soluzioni di cui ho preso nota:

1/ the modular sofa to be placed in the middle of the room

1/ il divano modulare da mettere a centro stanza

Maui is a small armchair that can be combined to form a modular sofa. Indeed, thanks to its hexagonal shape, it can be matched to create the size you need.

I think it ‘s a really smart solution for today’s living rooms, which often are open spaces with an irregular layout. How many times, for example, have you placed a sofa in the middle of the room, without knowing how to hide its back? With Maui the problem is solved because the seats face both sides.

La poltrona-pouf Maui è una poltroncina che può essere accostata a formare un divano componibile. Questo grazie alla sua pianta esagonale, forma modulare per eccellenza.

Io la trovo una soluzione davvero furba per i living di oggi, che spesso sono open space dal layout irregolare. Quante volte vi è capitato ad esempio di dover posizionare un divano a centro stanza e non sapere cosa mettere dietro? Con Maui si risolve il problema perché le sedute affacciano su entrambi i lati.

2/ the multifunctional table

The Alhambra coffee table is also inspired by the hexagonal shape, with the aim of creating a modular system that adapts to any space. As for Maui, in this case in fact you can match several pieces to create the solution that fits your space.

I like it because it can be used both as a classic coffee table, or as a side table, but in more original ways too. It is perfect for example as a bedside table, thanks to its original and geometric shape.

Il tavolino Alhambra si ispira anch’esso alla forma esagonale, con l’obiettivo di creare un sistema modulare e adattabile ad ogni spazio. Come per Maui, anche in questo caso infatti ne puoi accostare diversi per formare la soluzione che si adatta al tuo spazio.

A me piace però perché può essere utilizzato sia come classico tavolino da caffé, in appoggio a fianco del divano, sia in modalità più originali: è perfetto ad esempio come comodino, grazie alla sua forma originale e geometrica.

3/ the simple shelf to decorate

The Icaro wall unit is the last news by Zanette I show you and is also composed of hexagonal shapes, this time for the wall. The modules are made up of a small metal shelf and embellished with different finishes, which can be combined with each other as desired.

I like it because you can use it everywhere: in an entrance, as a shelf in the living room, as single or together for the home office, as small storage shelves in the bathroom.

Il pensile Icaro è l’ultima novità di Zanette che vi mostro e si compone anch’essa di forme esagonali, stavolta da posare però a parete. I moduli sono formati da una piccola mensola in metallo e impreziositi da finiture diverse, accostabili tra loro a piacere.

Mi piace perché in pratica si può utilizzare ovunque: come svuotatasche in un ingresso, come scaffale in soggiorno, come moduli singoli o combinati per lo studio, come piccole mensole portaoggetti in bagno.
