i.e. Why we all love Scandinavian Interior Style
Today’s post is the Scandinavian version of yesterday post. Indeed, yesterday I listed the 10 ideas to steal from Italian style interiors, with 10 features of Italian style interiors. Today I’m trying to do something similar for the Scandinavian interior style. In this blog, in fact, I’m oftern posting Scandinavian interiors as I’m a huge fan of the Scandinavian style. As many Italians are, right?
However, while I had some troubles in putting together a post with the 10 features of Italian style interiors, because the Italian style is actually very heterogeneous, I’m playing safer today. Indeed, listing ten points to steal for a Scandinavian style interior is easier today. And I’m pretty sure I will meet in this post the taste of most of you.
Scandinavian style fascinates for its cozy rooms, for a simple yet refined design, for bright and crisp white spaces.
I’ve collected with this post a list of ten ideas, but there are really so many things we can learn by the Nordic way of decorating.

Ovvero, perché tutti amiamo gli interni in stile Scandinavo.
Il post di oggi è il corrispettivo “Scandinavo” dell’articolo di ieri, in cui vi presentavo dieci idee che identificano lo stile di interni italiano e da “rubare” per riproporre questo stile.
Mentre ho avuto qualche difficoltà per la redazione del post di ieri, essendo il nostro uno stile di arredo veramente eterogeneo, vado decisamente più sul sicuro con i miei dieci punti per un interno in stile Scandinavo, certa di incontrare il gusto di gran parte di voi. Io stessa sono una grande fan di questo stile e vi propongo spesso nel blog interni Scandinavi, tendenze e ispirazioni proprio dal nord europa. Anche se a ben guardare alcuni punti sono in comune anche con il nostro stile Italiano in un certo senso, sarà che ci stiamo tutti un po’ scandinavizzando?
Lo stile di interni Scandinavo affascina per le sue case accoglienti, per un design semplice e allo stesso tempo ricercato, per gli spazi luminosi e candidi. Perché esso riflette una vera e propria filosofia di vita, in Danese hygge, in Svedese lagom, che noi italiani ammiriamo (e invidiamo, perché di natura non ci appartiene)
Io mi sono fermata a una lista di dieci, ma ci sono davvero un sacco di caratteristiche da cui possiamo prendere ispirazione e imparare quando si parla di interni nordici. Vi rimando ad esempio a questo articolo su Dalani Magazine per approfondire il tema!

1 Light flooring | Scandinavian style interiors
The floor for a perfect Scandinavian style interior must be a natural wooden one. Preferably a light one, with veins and imperfections.
To be used in every rooms apart from the bathrooms (or maybe also there)
Il pavimento del perfetto interno in stile Scandinavo è in legno, magari di essenza chiara o sbiancato.
Con venature ed imperfezioni e nodi a vista, posato in continuità in tutte le stanze a esclusione del bagno (o magari anche lì)

2 White rules | Scandinavian style interiors
Scandinavian daylight hours are few and that’s why Scandi homes are brightened to their maximum. Indeed, the preference goes toward white walls and light neutral shades.
Although the current trend seems to go more towards “moody”hues, ie to darker interior colors and dark wall paints (as told in this home tour in a Finnish interior for example). A good option for a bright home to white walls are beige walls, one of the trendiest options we are seeing in 2018 from Scandinavia interiors. However, it is clear that geographical conditions affect the way we decorate our homes, so I’m sure that bright walls will have long life!
Le ore di luce in terra Scandinava sono poche e per questo gli interni sono schiariti al massimo, con una spiccata predilezione verso il bianco e tonalità chiare e neutre.
Anche se la tendenza più attuale si rivolge verso interni più “”moody”, ossia dalle tinte più scure (come ad esempio vi dicevo in questo home tour in una casa finlandese qui). Un’opzione molto attuale oggi, per interni luminosi ma allo stesso tempo per evitare lo scontato total white, è quella delle pareti in beige, tendenza che arriva proprio dalla Scandinavia. Certo è che le condizioni climatiche condizionano molto le scelte decorative, e quindi lunga vita alle pareti bianche!

3 Colour accents | Scandinavian style interiors

This does not mean that Scandinavian interiors are not colorful ones, indeed. The color, however, is added to accessories and furnishings, to textiles, to cushions, with colour matches that can go from a range of pastel shades (see for example this beautiful Scandi interior in pastel accents) to bold and juicy ones.
In addition to this, Scandinavians today love to decorate also by painting walls in muted colors, like greens, blues, earthy shades. To know more about this, have a read at these posts:
Ciò non significa che le case Scandinave non siano case colorate, anzi. Il colore riveste accessori e complementi di arredo, ai tessili, ai cuscini, con abbinamenti che possono andare dalle tonalità pastello (guardate ad esempio questo bellissimo interno colorato da accessori pastello) a colori molto più accesi e vitaminici.
Il colore arriva oggi anche sulle pareti, con moltissime belle proposte di pareti verdi, blu oppure nelle tonalità del terracotta. Per saperne di più vi invito a leggere:

4 Graphics and wall arts | Scandinavian style interiors

What’s the fav decor element in Scandinavian homes? Prints and graphics.
Hanged on the wall, maybe in clusters to form a gallery wall, or just on the furniture or on the floor. You just need to browse a little bit among the Scandinavian interior blogs to find endless solutions and ideas to decorate your home with frames and pics!
L’ elemento decorativo preferito delle case scandinave? Le stampe e le grafiche.
Appese alla parete a formare delle gallery wall, oppure appoggiate ai mobili, o ancora appoggiate a terra. E’ sufficiente curiosare online tra i blog di interior Scandinavi per trovare infinite idee su come esporre i quadri anche in casa nostra!

5 Form follows function | Scandinavian style interiors
In Scandinavian homes form follows function. That’s why often a bare bulb is enough to illuminate a room, or a pile book is ok as a bedside, or walls are decorated with quotes to start well the day. So much envy for this way of decorating, indeed: I think I don’t have it in my DNA, but I’d love having it! (are you a concealer or a revealer?)
Nelle case scandinave la forma segue la funzione. Ecco che spesso per illuminare basta una lampadina appesa, come comodino è sufficiente una pila di libri, alle pareti una bella frase per iniziare la giornata. Io ammiro davvero tanto questo modo di decorare (ricordate che ve ne parlavo nel post concealer/revealer qui?)

6 Curtains? No, thanks | Scandinavian style interiors
No need for curtains in Scandinavian interiors. I’m not sure if I will be able to live inside an home without curtains, actually.
On this topic, I’m quite sure Italians and Scandinavians are very different!
Non c’è traccia di tende nelle case scandinave. La cosa ha un grande fascino, ma diciamoci la verità, voi ci vivreste in una casa senza tende?
Io non credo, ve lo confesso, e penso che italiani e scandinavi su questo tema la pensino proprio in maniera differente.

7 The kitchen is a room | Scandinavian style interiors
While I already that Italian kitchens usually are in an unique space with the sitting area, called the “living” space, in Scandinavian homes most of the kitchen still have their own room.
Sounds crazy but this can be seen even in the smaller interiors, see for example this tiny studio apartment!
Mentre vi parlavo ieri qui della tendenza delle case italiane ad avere un living con cucina e soggiorno insieme a formare un unico open space, le case scandinave hanno grandi cucine spesso separate in un’altra stanza.
Da non credere, questa cosa la si ritrova anche negli appartamenti più piccoli, ricordate ad esempio questo monolocale con un’idea smart per integrare la camera nel soggiorno ?

A wooden stove, in cast iron, almost at the corner of every room, do you never noticed them? How beautiful they are?
Una stufa a legna in ghisa decorata, spesso all’angolo di ogni stanza, l’avete mai notato? Ma quanto belle sono?

9 Scandi design tradition | Scandinavian style interiors

If you read this blog, you will find so many Scandi design brands that this point really needs no explanation.
From the mid-century period designers that are so popular in these years, like Hans Wegner, Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen. Finally, to the present top design brands: Scandinavian design still rules the design scene, and really don’t know if this trend it’s going to end!
Basta vedere anche in questo blog quanto spesso io vi presenti marchi di design Scandinavo per capirlo, gli Scandinavi oggi sono al primo post in fatto di design. Da Italiana sono un po’ invidiosa, perché penso che anche noi abbiamo una storia ed un presente di tutto rispetto.
Dal design degli anni Cinquanta, il cosiddetto stile mid-century che è tanto in voga nell’ultimo decennio, fino ai brand di design dei giorni nostri. Il design Scandinavo oggi detta tendenza e domina incontrastato nel campo del design…e chissà se e quando questa tendenza sarà destinata a lasciare il posto ad altro!

10 Green is not just for the outside | Scandinavian style interiors
It’s too cold outside for plants to survive, even for people to spend time in the garden? Well, Scandinavians bring green inside home. Indeed, in the web you can find tons of wonderful ideas in terms of green decor inside homes. Just to give you an idea, have a look at the Scandinavian blogger inspirations by the Urban Jungle Bloggers group: no doubt, they are really masters on this!
Fuori fa troppo freddo per le piante per sopravvivere, e pure per le persone, per trascorrere piacevolmente il tempo in giardino? Bene, gli Scandinavi il verde se lo portano in casa. In rete potete trovare una miriade di idee stupende in termini di verde in casa e di decorazione green. Per darvi un’idea, basta guardare le ispirazioni dei blogger scandinavi all’interno del gruppo Urban Jungle Bloggers: niente da fare, stanno una spanna sopra a tutti!

The truth is, Scandinavians are masters in the art of ‘interior styling’. That is to say the art to set up an interior at its best.
Just compare any of Scandinavian real estate website (such as Fantastik Frank or Alvhem to name the most popular) with an Italian one. I would say that we still have so much to learn …
La verità è che gli Scandinavi sono veri maestri nell’arte dell’ interior styling. Vale a dire, l’arte di allestire un interno.
Basti confrontare un qualsiasi sito di agenzia immobiliare Scandinava (ad esempio Fantastik Frank o Alvhem per citare i più noti, siti da cui traggo anch’io gli home tour che vi mostro qui) con un sito immobiliare Italiano. Ecco, io direi che abbiamo ancora molto da imparare!
